Soil is cold and wet and looking at next week forecast for my area the temp is staying low. I have not spread any fert yet only slurry am I mad should I cover the place with fert now. I have not seen the normal response to the slurry.

Good Question. I reckon urea would be ok. How much silage have you left?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Will try to get out next week although looking at different weather predictors one is for a fairly dry week the odd shower and the other says plenty of snow about wtf.

Finished putting mine out today. Supposed to be lambing tomorrow so I didn't feel I could wait any longer.

It would depend on your land anu land that got slurry would need no fertlizer until late march. When you spread the slurry you would have got about 10 units/1000gallons/acre. Is there growth on this land if not you could hold off. If there is growth where the slurry went I be going out with urea. You need two-three dry days after spreading for to lett the plant roots take it up. Old paddocks will be slow enough at present, reseed ground is coming along nicly especially ground that was done in the last two years.

Half a bag of urea would be enough to the acre at present I spread two week ago.

Soil temp here 5 today very free draining soil if that's any help. I would be inclined to go with full bag of urea not to have to go again

I posted the values of the various slurries on the Urea (I think) thread. Maybe some one better with a key board could transfer to here!!

Covered 70% of my grazing are with a bag and a half of early start pasture sward today on top of the bag of urea about 4 weeks ago.Place is slowly greening up but growth rates very low measured 25 last week and 15 this week. Not savage worried yet as when weather dose soften the place will really fly growth wise.Have roughly 3 weeks gras left for cows so need to panic for a bit yet.Measured the first paddock i grazed in feb yesterdaty and theres only 550 on it,Will be looking for a cover of 12 to 13 00 on this come april 6

If I was dairying farming I might risk it as well. However bisgest issue is that you could suddenly get a lot of rain. At 20-30 units of N/acre most will be in the roots of the plants after 2-3 days. The rest will still be in the ground a lot of rain and money washing into the rivers and lakes, nitrogen will go too deep in the soil to be any use if you get a lot of rain.

I would prefer to go out again at present even new reseeds are at best using a unit of nitrogen/day on average. Also cattle will scour grass too high in nitrogen . I am a fan of little and often.

At present we need heat I see new reseeds moving slowly I have a couple old pastures they are at a dead stop. Nitrogen alone will not grow grass you need soil temperature to impeove as well.

I would be slow in using TSP (16% P), much prefer DAP, you can do two spreadings in one if using DAP as it would include you N for next rotation

I put out 1 bag of 18-6-12 to the acre 2 weeks ago over about 10 acres just to test the water and can see no response yet, same with the ground that i spread slurry on about 4 weeks ago its only a darker shade of green compared to the grass beside it that got none,
i got urea on friday with the intentions of spreading it yesterday at 3/4 bag to the acre but with all the hail showers we got i decided against it
i'm going to wait until the temps rise a little and the grass is ready to take it up, looking at met eireann i dont think it will be next weekend at the earliest
I know the soil temp is probably about right but with the wind chill i dont think anything will grow

Spreading somemore paster sward on the paddocks that have been recently grazed out today and yesterday! Got the Glanbia Feb milkcheque today, alongside the fertilizer bill, most of the milkcheque will be going straight back to them :(
