Hi, I am am building a block built cavity wall bungalow and had assumed that a wet sand and cement plaster coating to the internal walls of the build would give me adequate Airtightness for my MHRV.

I was recently receiving a quote for foam insulation and was informed that there is a new method of plastering the walls with a hardwall type plaster both scratch coat and finished coat that gives the walls a far more effective Airtightness level, has anyone here any experience of this method and if so were the results cost effective or is this overkill?
    Thanks for any replies!

Done properly, there is nothing wrong with tried and tested standard sand/cement render as internal airtightness barrier. Any "improvement" may well be a marketing gimmick.

make sure you are not using foam in your cavity as foam is not certified for cavity fill in ireland only beads

its all a sales push from gypsum trying to sell hard coat it goes straight onto block and then skimmed. theyd love to have a product thats used as much as sand and cement. personally as a plasterer 12 years i wouldnt use it. however there is a product called air tightness plaster thats put on before the insulated slabs which might be what u r talkin about. but its not for skimming onto just for airtightness.
