I was planning on getting a free sat box in the next couple of weeks and do away from Sky+, but now I have to take a trip over to London anyway. So I can save myself some delivery charges and just pick one up in Richersounds or similar. Any issue with doing this? The ones they sell in b&m are not somehow "locked" to English frequencies or anything? As you can tell, I know very little about this subject.

you will be fine, i bought a humax freesat box from richer sounds in belfast in oct 2011 working a treat, put in the postcode from a bottle of fairy liquid and have all the hd channels. Go for it as you will save a few pound/euro, at the time maplin in cork wanted 405€ for the 500gb box got it for £229 or €285 at the time.

If you can afford it, get the Humax Freetime Freesat box. New Epg, Itv player and YouTube on it, with 4 OD coming soon, beautiful box, well worth it.

You may be asked for a postcode - just say you don't have one.

Thanks all. This is the one I have my eye on. Hopefully it's in stock. I shouldn't need any other cables or connections, right?

Simply plug and play, existing cabling will be fine.

Good price for that box compared with Irish prices. Also have a look here (rh column)

Is Sky+ recording and playback available with that card?

afaik if you cancel Sky you have to pay them a monthly fee to keep the recording facility working on the box.

It was £10 per month in the North, not sure if it is similar in RoI.

Better to go the Freesat route then, no ongoing subscription costs.

With the new Humax Freesat box out now there are bargains to be had on the old Foxsat, which is a great machine.
