If you just want snapshots as a record of your spin then I would agree with using your phone but it sounds like you want more. Composing an image on a bright day is very difficult with a phone (at least the ones I've tried). Any Canon or Nikon compact will work really well, and prices are so low just now that it is difficult to go wrong. To paraphrase an infamous quote....'It's not about the camera"

GoPros are only mediocre still cameras.

Fujifilm EXR Series compacts. Real great all round cameras

Had a couple of Canon Ixus cameras and think they're brilliant. First one took dogs abuse in my back pocket for a couple of years when I was mountain biking and has nothing more than a slight ding - still works. Got a newer one late last year but Itend to use my phone more these days.

Bought a Panasonic with Leica lens for my sister for Christmas and it's a great little camera, price has also dropped since.
