Has anyone ever seen this before?:

Is it terminal? I think it may just be the screen - the unit makes all the beeping noises etc when I turn it on. If anyone has an experience of this I'd be grateful for a view.

If there's still hope for it I'll get on to Garmin and see if it is fixable.

Looks weird. Like something magnetic is pulling on the screen.
My first guess would be replace the battery and see if that makes any odds.

Is it old? or did you drop it or get it wet?

garmin do a very good refurb service - mrs lenny smashed a garmin watch, she sent it off to garmin and for 60 quid they sent her out a refurbished one which was as good as new.

I've seen that before on LCD screens when they are subject to extreme cold.

Their phone support is very good, I rang them in the UK and got great help straight away. Maybe try calling or emailing the pic

Wonder would it be due to dampness/moisture. Worth putting it near some heat, or put it in a sealed container with some dessicant (if you have it).

Looks like pressure was applied to the lcd, probably gone, but their repair service is quite good so hopefully you'll be sorted by them.

Thanks for the info folks. I took it for a ride and it records data just fine (it told me I covered a bit less distance and a bit slower than I would have thought - but that's not a new problem!).

It hasn't suffered any of the possible causes suggested, at least not that I know of, but I'll call the JDM folks and see if its possible to just replace the screen.

    Cheers.

I've seen something similar when they were left on a windowsill in the sun or on a radiator. Usually cleared up in a day or two though...

If it doesn't come back, like others have said, the Garmin repair and refurb service is very good.

advise going direct to garmin repair center in UK.have sent units for repair before, once through irish distributors, taking 3 monthsanother time direct to UK service ( address on UK garmin website ) taking 2 weeks to issue refurb as replacement . as above, refurb was an excellent unit, with a new full gaurantee on it.

Just to conclude on this for those who might be interested - I dithered a bit, as is my wont, but when I finally got my act together I contacted Garmin in the UK directly - they said send it back they'd most likely send a refurb - and on top of that they said they'd do so under warranty even though it was nearly 4 months beyond the warranty period. They absolutely didn't need to do that and I wasn't even expecting - I totally expected to have to pay.

I got an email on Tuesday to say my banjaxed unit arrived at their location and got the replacement this morning.

So a full fix, fast service, no cost (apart from postage to the UK) even though I was well out of warranty - all in all I think that has to be considered an excellent service out of Garmin.:)

Sent my garmin 310 ( I think it could have been 2 years after I bought it) back to them, refurbished one sent back in a few weeks , really excellent service

totaly similar experience with my 705, that I damaged myself, by closing the car boot on the unit. Same as urself, a refurb unit was supplied, with a new 2 year warranty.

Good to hear about good customer service from a company, especially as I sent my unit to them just yesterday after I dropped it on a tiled floor and wrecked the screen.
I've been impressed with their service so far so hopefully this will all end well

Same here, dropped it from hand height walking out the door, didn't think it would have been a big enough drop to break the screen, is there a cost for these replacements if its within warranty, I presume so but here is hoping.

I paid no cost except postage (one-way!)

:( Turns out I am just outside warranty and because it is physical damage, they have to charge for a refurb unit (works out at 68 sterling) but I can change the colour to the one I wanted originally.
