Fleece Vest

Hi guys!
So I have a horse that's prone to rubbing whenever he has his rug on and I have to turn him out without his rug, which normally doesn't bother me but we're just getting back into shows and I'd prefer if he was easier to clean when I take him in (he loves rolling).

So I was thinking about buying him a vest for under his rugand I've found two good ones, but one is cheaper than the other. This is why I was thinking about buying the fleece one, but I'm worried he might overheat with it on if the summer gets hot (even though his summer rug is extremely lightweight, purely for keeping him clean).

So I was wondering if I'm just being a worrywart, or if there's an actual chance he could get ill.

both very good, never had any problem with overheating! i presume it is shoulders/withers that are getting rubbed?

Yes, around his withers are getting rubbed and he used to have a bald patch there because of it. Thanks for your help!

No problem!! two things though about the withers - all-in-one full neck rugs can cause that too, obviously buying a new one is a pain but i changed over after my mare literally balded herself on the withers.. also was tipped off the other day - if your saddle is too low at the withers it can cause the numnah to rub as well. I had original thought my gelding's wither rub was from his rug, but actually it seems that i need to get my saddle reflocked at the front!

if its the withers rubbing, a piece of fibergee or gamgee on top of the area rubbing will suffice, save the cost of buying something, it could be the fit of the rug though, I know of a guy in newbridge that will measure up a horse for rugs, they are excellent quality and not that expensive in the run of things, pm me if you want his number or any more info

Thanks for your help. But I don't think the saddle was the issue as ever since I've taken the rug off him, his hair has grown back and he doesn't seem to be rubbing anymore.
Also, I forgot to mention that he used to rub around his chest and I need to know if that would all be because of an ill fitting rug or if it could be another possibility?
