Got flashed by speed van that was on the opposite side of the road the other day. I was driving towards the van when i seen this flash. Am i done??? or do they just snap cars on their own side of the road????

Would say you are done, it covers the full road not just a lane.

Yup more than likely done, the vans cover all lanes.

Camera points out of back window, catches cars driving towards back window, and away from back window.

You'll just have to wait it out OP.

was it an actual flash of just a little red light that flashed?
though I got flashed one night after seeing a little red light even though I wasn't speeding, turned around and crawled passed the van and same red light flashed, all was in order and never heard a thing after so I would presume it just the inferred sensor

No after scanning google maps to the best of my knowledge i came off N4 onto south circular road...went up over a bridge which seems to match the map...then turned right onto chapelizod road...i turned left onto infirimary road....white van was defo a speed van (btw NO camera sign on it like the government ones)
van was on the right side of the road facing me as i drove towards city.. before turning off onto infirmary road.....hope it was picking up car on the other side of the road....:)
not like me to pick up speed tho road was empty...........maybe il ring MING flanagan for help :P

I did a re-run to check van and didnt notice any 50kph signs on that road...
appreciate help...will post if fined :)

Your correct. At night the infrared will look faint red to the human eye or bright as day on a DVR. The reason is the GoSafe van is constantly recording video so every single car is 'flashed' to reveal the number plate. Its only if you over the limit that a sequence of stills are captured.

I'm not too sure about that.. I have seen footage from an on board camera that shows the little light illuminating every time a car passes, and a massive flash that whites out the pic when a car that is over the speed limit passes.

I'm at a loss as to what exactly the little light is for, but i do know that its not the IR flash

(and its the GoSafe vans i'm talking about)

Well you need to be able to calibrate the camera (VERY fancy system in GoSafe ) and make an initial plate reading. Then flash if they are speeding. Thats my guess based on reviewing specs and footage.

the newer system (that they dont use here) had two radar systems, One for lane identification and one for speed measurement.

obviously the current system isn't as accurate as they'd like us to believe.

the current system that is in use here, uses the one radar antenna for land id and speed measurement.

btw: has anyone worked out what the 34 locations that aren't in use any more ?

i've only managed to id 29 zones, by comparing the new maps wit the old

I asked a cop and he said that you are only done if you are driving towards the back window of the van, they DON'T do both sides of the road

    he told you wrong

edit: a member here (mooman) posed a pic of the rear of his car, as taken from a gosafe van

Your cop is wrong. I got done by a van a few years ago which was parked on the opposite side of the road in a car park. Was coming home from a night shift and most likely day dreaming.
