Should I repeat my Leaving Cert?

My leaving Cert results last year were very poor (125), though I have matured a bit and have come to better understand the value of studying and working hard by moving to Dublin this year, and doing a plc course in multimedia.

The CAO is gone, and I wasin't able to really apply to anything with the course I'm doing because they all required maths (which I didin't get) .

I don't know what I want to work as in future, I mostly chose the multimedia course miles away from where I lived on impuls shortly after getting my results, and I knew abit about computers, but I'm not sure now if I'd ever like to make a carrer out of it.

Anyway, that's part of the reason why I want to repeat, so I have time to mature and decide what I want to do while I am working towards a better leaving cert.

    Opinions would be appretiated.

Can you use your PLC to get into an IT or University course? (If that's what you even want?).

If you don't really know what you want to do, then repeating wouldn't be a bad idea, it'd certainly give you some time to decide what you want to do as well. Just be sure you actually want to do it, repeating after a PLC could be even more difficult. Did you find school boring and frustrating the first time? You've probably matured a good bit, but you also might have forgotten how much you (might have not) enjoyed the LC.

There was a lot of repeats in my year who had similar intentions but when they actually started back into 6th year again they quickly fell back into loathing the routine and ended up scoring <200 points again, some of them did even worse than they did the first time, so it was a bit of a waste of year.

But if you feel you could do it, by all means do! It'd be hard work, but only 10~ months, you'll have forgotten all about it if you go to college. Still plenty of time to decide, look at college prospecti it could help you decide and maybe be motivating if you do choose to repeat.

If you're still in Dublin, it might be worth your while dropping into Pearse College CDVEC in Crumlin who specialise in adults and the LC.

As the poster said above, there are many who still do absolutely nothing, it is the majority of people in my course , the leaving cert/school is just really not their thing and as they were not motivated in school , they still aren't motviated now, but i am repeating this year and it has given me another chance :) i am repeating now so if you have any questions go ahead..

Hi, I was just wondering how do you find repeating the leaving cert, if I do decide to do it, any tips for getting ready, what about grinds? do you get any?, if so how much do you usually pay all together, cheers

Its really not too bad at all but that depends on the person. I found it quite difficult adjusting at the beginning of the year with new teachers, new people and having to make new friends proved really difficult for me. Unfortunately not much has changed in that field but thats due to my personality.
Anyway! I wouldn't start preparing just yet, it's quite early and the information probably wouldn't be retained. Start during the summer if you want to get a head start or if you decide to take up a new subject. I get Ag Science grinds once a week since I took it up this year and thats it. I feel that sometimes grinds can be down to laziness; open the book and learn it yourself! It sticks better than having someone spoon feed it to you.
Thats just my 2c. If you want any more info or help you can PM me!
