    My thesis supervisor is not familiar with my thesis topic so I was going to ask to change. Has this happened any one before?

    how does that happen? your research should fit in with the research of your supervisor. If you change your project it should be within the scope of your supervisors work. Why did they let you change if they cant provide adequate supervision?
