Bike-fitting recommendations

Feel I could benefit somewhat from a full bike-fitting (only one I've had to date was a fairly basic one in the LBS when purchasing my road bike over 2 years back) - have some pelvic/hip issues which might benefit from a combined physio and bike-fit analysis/adjustment approach

Wondering if any posters can recommend someone they they've used (in the North Kildare - West/South Dublin region preferably) ?

    Thanks

The best option is a retul bike fit. I'm having one done today. they're not cheap but are the best way to go. Paul hicks in sandyford does it.

Can you let us know how you get on with this? Considering a retul fit myself. Don't mind paying the extra if its worth it. Thanks in advance!

1750W, how does a retul fit differ from a common or garden bikefitting ?

How much more expensive does it tend to be (how much are bikefittings typically anyway ?!?) and is it worth the extra ?

Let us know how you got on, and where you got it done etc.

    Thanks

Well first of all before I took the Jump and got the retul fit done I researched quite a bit into why it was better than traditional bike fits. The fact that it captures your position in motion leaves no possibility of error.

First of all Paul input My bike details Manufacturer model and Saddle type and handlebar type into the Retul software. He then goes on to ascertain the way the bike was currently set up by touching all the essential points on the bike. (there is a video showing this on the Retul site). Then he checked my cleat position was correct so it was time to jump up on the bike.

Then there were little stick velcro jobbies stuck onto my toe, ankle, Knee, Hip wrist, shoulder and Elbow joints.

This was done on both sides of my body and then paul got me to ride at 160W, 200W and 250W to ascertain that there were minimal imbalances from My LHS To RHS. Thankfully Mine are Minimal

At that point he analyses a number of different angles and makes adjustments based on Same.

We ended up dropping the saddle Height by 8mm and bringing my saddle forward by 10 mm. We also raise the angle on the handlebars and brought the tri bars closer together.

After we were finished I felt that the new position was much more comfortable than my old one also I feel a Smoother Pedalling stroke than earlier which could result in much more Power.

Paul also captured the new position and took a video of my new position.

If its possible to upload the videos here I will do so but failing that I can email them to anyone who wants to see it.

Paul Charges €225 for the fit. Ok its a fair bit more than other bike fits. I can certainly justify paying the extra money for something that I have complete faith in. I have had other bike fits in the past and one resulted in me suffering with very bad back pain as a result of my saddle height being out by 20mm.

All in All Im very happy. Paul is an absolute Pro and I am looking forward to go back to him with my roadbike to optimise the position soon which will hopefully result in an end to my neck and shoulder pain.

I got the retul fit done at Kinetix Products below are some contact details and a link to the Retul site.

Thanks 1750W, great report of your fitting, plus the link to the retul site.

So you got fitted for a TT bike today, not your road bike ?

Looking at the sample report, did you have to do a "medical" initially to ascertain things like gait, leg length comparison etc. ?

Do I take it that the fitting is done on the retul set-up, and then the analysis and resulting adjustments are made to your bike which you bring along with you - is that how it works ?

Sorry to be a PITA with all the questions but €200+ is a lot and I'd like to know beforehand whether it might deliver results for me or whether it's too extravagant (I'm a club cyclist doing 100km rides each week, plus a little more in Summer so it's not like I'm aiming for Rio or anything !) and whether a more basic bike-fitting might not be more suitable etc.

******************Yes TT Bike today will get Roadbike done in next few weeks.

*****That's all captured by the sensors that are placed on all the joints.

***** The fitting is done on the bike you bring. he does have the retul bike too which is a fine piece of kit.

No problem I like to help.
My honest answer is if something is worth doing its worth doing right. Even a few kms a week with a bike in the wrong position can cause injuries. E.g My back started when I was doing less than 5 hrs a week.

Hope that helps. Paul is a very helpful guy so don't hesitate to pick up the phone!

    Base2Race in ballymount
    Dom really knows his stuff.
I got fitted on the road bike a few months ago, the difference it made for me is unreal.

I was worried the bike was too big for me, but turns out it was the perfect fit. I was too low with the saddle and at the bars, both raised along with a few other tweeks and the differences was night and day. so much easier to put the power down, i using a much better range of my pedal stroke now.

    highly recommended.

    Is Base2Race a Retul set-up also or just a "regular" bike-fitting ?
