    hi
Was wondering is there anyone waiting on garda vetting at the mo?
Ive been vetted loads, usually takes 2 months, i was last vetted back in november, 3 months after it was sent off.
Anyway, im waiting 5 months now, and its a paid job, so im missing out on money while they take their time. Typical all the work experience and volunteer jobs have never ever taken this long but the paid job does...Anyone else waiting this long at the moment? I know how long it takes to come through changes constantly.. My job can't tell me anything and neither can the garda vetting office place..
    :)

How long it takes depends totally on the relationshiip between the organisation asking for the vet and the guarda.

I've seen 'em turned around in a week, in place where it really benefited the guards to know who was where.

You won't be able to find out anything, but the company may able to.

I applied the start of October, and came back last week, and currently it does not have whole lot to do with an organisation because of the change in regulation around all sports clubs or organisation must have vetted staff by feb 2013 so there would have been a dramatic increase in applications.

My vetting is coming from a charity organisation, my boy fried applied through the VEC in Mid october and it is not back yet, and my cousin through the HSE in mid October and it is not back yet either so it is taking a while to get it at the min. Its a really stupid system tho, that you must apply for every job instead of having like a card or letter that covers you for a year or two. I have applied 11 times in the last year so its madness.

In February I rang the garda vetting unit to enquire was mine back, and they told me that they were working on November's even tho mine went in in October, so I was full sure it should be bk, but didnt arrive back till march, so to be honest eve tho they said they are working on Jan, you are lucky if they have started on dec yet.

Ya exactly. It's such a joke.

My daughters childminder sent off for hers in Oct
She got it back just after Paddy's weekend. That's for HSE Company

Very annoying. . I seen in news today that 25 extra suppose to move to vetting area. They'd need a lot more !

Early Last year I applied for a pretty good secure government job I had my heart set on,passed the recruitment process without any problems, vetting forms were sent in may,by late october the job informs me vetting is taking too long and im going to miss the last date to start training and I lost the job because of this,6 months later im still sitting at home still claiming your tax money(dole) struggling to find a job in the same vetting situation with another similar job as you can probably see by some of my recent posts:-(

Our useless appendages of a government have 450,000 on the dole and probably 100,000's more underemployed or not working to their full earning potential because of hold-ups in this and other systems.

Probably need to take a leaf from Revenue or Car Tax crowd who I've used on several occasions and are very fast in response time by post and even have good response time by phone on some occasions.

Some government and semi public agencies have their act together, some haven't.

Probably a huge liability issue if they get the vetting wrong but the good people out there shouldn't suffer for the actions or potential actions of the wrong-doers.

Its such a waste of resources having gardai who should be out on the street doing this. Clerical duties should be handed over to support staff. The whole process could be made so much more efficient. There is no reason why vetting cant be done in a timely fashion while also be done thoroughly. Its really annoying when you hear people who have been offered jobs and are sitting around with their hands tied because of this bureaucratic bull****.

takes a day in my job, we call in with the name and address and we have a reply that day.

In fairness we ring a specific person who happens to be mates with our owner, rang him twice this week for new starts got replies to both already.

I am waiting since last February, looks like the position I worked so hard to secure is going to be filled. I should sue for loss of earnings it's rediculous

    Complain to your TD.

They probably cannot do anything for you, but unless they hear the complaints nothing will ever change.

Can td's do very much to be honest???i've been offered work but garda vetting is an obstacle, have previous convictions, not many but if i applied for garda vetting for security and got it could i apply and be refused for say a taxi licence???

Your TD should be able to influence the system, viz the law that controls how vettings are done, the processes etc. That is why they should hear complaints.

In particular cases, no a TD absolutely should not be able to influence the results of your vetting, or the decison about whether your having convictions for certain offenses makes you unsuitable for particular jobs.

FWIW, I know of one taxi-driver who does have a record which includes at least one road-traffic related conviction. I was surprised that he was judged suitable, but apparently he was.

called into my local psv office in the garda station today, the previous I have wouldnt automatically disqualify me,plus I have references from state bodies to back up my claims that "I've turned my life around" clearing the hurdle that is the taxi theory test may prove the problem though

Is the Garda Vetting office an actual place that one can enter and speak to the people working there?
