    A simple question, is it possible to re register a car that was previously registered in Irl without bringing the car to a VRT office? Car is on the continent and would like to reg it so it can be insured to drive it home, it's TUV ( nct) has expired.

    Cheers,
    Ed

    Are they ever actually de-registered in the first place,
    if not maybe just apply for a new reg cert?

    You don't have to pay VRT or bring it to a VRT office if it's a re-entry.

    You just have to fill out a statutory declaration, get that stamped by a main dealer and signed by a commisioner for oaths, if you send that along with the current vehicle registration document to Dublin City Council -they will issue you with a brown logbook.

    You need the original irish registration number.

    I have done this before. If you want to PM me I can give you the name of the person I dealt with in Dublin City Council to save you hassle, as my documents were mistakenly redirected towards Shannon (who don't deal with brown-logbook cars), who sent this back to Dublin where they were lost. Thankfully I had scanned them.

    @Xlaxeo

    Have you information the rest of the thread readers aren't party to?

    The reason I ask is no where does the OP state whether or not it had previously been issued an old-style log book, or a modern Vehicle Registration Certificate.

    Also, how do you know that the car was previously registered in Dublin? Surely if it was a log book matter then that would be the responsibility of the particular county concerned?

    Hi, the car was originally imported to Irl in around 1990, it got a 67 D reg and a Vehicle Reg Cert not a brown log book. Car was then exported about 8 years ago and registered in Germany, it is now being brought back to Irl, so just want to register and insure it so it can be driven back to here rather then spending money and time getting it through the TUV test as it has lapsed.
    I will try getting a replacement reg cert from Shannon and see how that goes.
