Canon Printer B&W trouble

My sister called me today and said she got a Canon Pixma MG3150 (wireless) printer and part of her intention for getting this was to print out copies of a B&W photo I sent her of her new born so she can send it out as a "Thank you" card for friends and family.

Colour photos are printing out great she said but she's having major problems with printing this B&W picture. When it prints the quality isn't great, it's not as well defined as on screen she tells me.

Is anyone else familiar with these canon printers and have encountered similar problems that they know how to resolve?

The image is sized correctly for the print job she requires and it is 300 DPI.

Try printing the B&W image in colour.

Try printing the B&W image in colour.

She has printed the colour version of the photo and it prints fine but the B&W copy of the same photo won't print out well (she's done other photos of colour/B&W to compare and it's the same all around).

She specifically wanted this shot in B&W and has Colour text for the thank you card on the image and the colour elements are fine. I've attached the image for anyone curious to see.

Ah, I just thought the printer might have been using black ink/toner only.
