My friend is considering the Mechatronics course. Could someone answer these two questions:

What type of jobs do the graduates typically get?

    and

Would you advise someone to start in Year Two (skip year one)?

    Thanks,
    M

I'm doing mechanical but the mechatronics share a lot of the mech subjects - what they seem to do is a lot more of electronic theory and programming. Plus, they get to play with robots which is very interesting - I was nearly considering changing over at 1 point!

From what I can tell, a lot of jobs are manufacturing oriented; setting up production machinery in factories and programming said machinery.

If you wanted to get in touch with someone in the college, try emailing Eamonn Price for more information; he's very knowledgable in it and what it entails.

Thanks for the reply - very much appreciated!

I'd rather get feedback from the students (I'd be afraid I'd get more of a sales pitch, rather than the facts).

Would you have any idea what the job prospects of the graduates like? Are most of them working now?

To be honest, I'm not sure about work opportunities - I'm currently scouting for potential employers with different backgrounds; there is a lot of choices out there.
