Anxiety about going to wedding

A friend from school is getting married in the Summer and I've been invited to the wedding. He's one of the few I kept in touch with, albeit sporadically, over the years and I think he's a cool guy. I was quiet when I was younger and still find big crowds draining but he made an effort with introverted me.

As such, I really want to go, but I'm recently single so I'll be there alone with a load of people who'll remember me that don't know me at all and vice versa.

My logical thoughts are to just go, it'll be fun and if not, leave as soon as the speeches are finished up and no one will be any the wiser, but I'm filled with anxiety about the whole thing. I'm doing okay as far as life is concerned, but things could be better and going there single just makes me panic.

Any advice? Should I just beat down the fears and go?

Going to a wedding on your own when you know very few people there is very difficult.
Does your invite have a plus one and if it does could you ask someone even as a friend?

I was invited to an old friends wedding a few years ago and decided to just go to the service but leave before the reception because I knew absolutely no one going and was single at the time.

On the other hand you might get seated at a table with a great group of people and have a good night.
But I think it's pretty hard to do it solo unless you are very outgoing

I would go to the whole wedding.

I would not worry about going on your own as you never know who you could meet there.
One thing I found out was that as people left school, went to college and got jobs things changed.
The person you though would do really well after school as they were popular or bright could have ended up dropping out of college, ended up in a poor paying job or ended up with the biggest idiot you could meet.

I would not worry about what point your are at in your life compared to others of your age as you could have far less stress in your life than them.
Also with the way the economy is going no body is boosting about what job they have, the house/houses they own, where they went on holidays.

I was in your position before and only went to the church and left after. There is no point stressing yourself to this level about something you can avoid.
