From doing a search I see this question hasn't been asked in about a year. So I'm trying to develop android apps with my Asus 1215n and it's a nightmare. It is horrendously slow and the emulator simply won't load even if I give it an hour. I'm also having problems trying to debug using my actual android device but I'm not sure thats a problem with the laptop. So anyway I'm looking for something with much more processing power. I like the look of the new Dell xps13 with the 1080 resolution but I'm not willing to spend close to €1500!

    Budget: Max €1000

Intended use: Mainly development, no gaming.

Mobility: Probably won't leave the house much but not a 17" laptop at the same time!

    Warranty: Standard is fine

What Operating System do you use? Windows 7/8

Configure your own? PCS UltraNote 15.6 in the following configuration costs £770/€891:

Price includes their standard 3 year warranty, delivery to Ireland and OS installation disk, choose between Windows 7 or Windows 8. If you already have an operating system, you can order without and save 100 yoyos (comes with Windows 7 then, but not activated).

Interesting, do you know what kind of saving there is to be made instead of buying a similarly specced laptop from a brand name manufacturer?
There doesn't seem to be any reviews from the media sites which is a shame, just have to rely on user reviews it seems?

PCS is using chassis made by Clevo. You might find reviews under this name.

I had one here recently. A friend bought it for around €760 (same specs as above, sans OS). A fine piece of kit, slim, not too heavy, excellent display, great value.

I seriously doubt you will find a quad Core i7 "ultrabook style" laptop with a full HD IPS panel and a solid state disk from a major manufacturer for less than 1,000 yoyos. The reason why it does not officially qualiy as "ultrabook": per Intel's definition, an ultrabook should have an ULV processor (17W TDP) and no optical drive. Although a quad Core i7, the 3632QM consumes less power than a "full power" Core i7 3630QM (45W TDP), it has the same TDP specs as a regular Core i3/i5 (35W), so the battery life is reasonable. Up to 5 hours, according to my friend, without using any measures to prolong it (i.e. reducing the volume, dimming the display, disabling WiFi, etc).
