Next car - Alfa Romeo Giulietta....

Hey, it's time to sell my '00 Škoda Octavia diesel and upgrade to something different. I test driven a good few car models in the last few weeks and I really like the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. It's something different which I like and don't see many on the road. I think if I bought a Golf or Honda for example I would get bored of looking at it after a while. I really like the Audi A3 Sportback but it's too expensive.

I'm thinking of buying a 2l Veloce 140/170, test driven a 170 model last week and loved it especially in D mode! :D

Reading up about the Giulietta and it seems Alfa have improved their reliability problem. There are some good deals across the water and I'm not worried about depreciation.

What are boardies views on this car?

    Cheers

    Bobby

Not the best looking Alfa of recent times and parts of the interior are a little cheap (then again you could say that about most cars) , my main concern would be resale but as it looks like you're in for the long haul that based on the age of your current car you might be alright.

My neighbour has a petrol one, she loves it. It needs large rims though to fill the wheel arches.

I had one for a couple of days last year: loved it. I'd buy one.

the only Alfa that would appeal to me would be a Brera 3.2 V6 JTS Q4.

    now that's proper rare.

Fab looking cars! Go for it. Dunno about an auto though, I'd be heading for manual. As said, they need big wheels!

nice car alright, i would be worried about reliability and parts. Its not exactly a car that i imagine would be awash with parts at motor factors.

fair play for bucking the trend tho op.

For a rare one I'd take the Cloverleaf.

An Alfa with an Opel engine? Meh, forgive me but I'll pass ;)

OP - go for the multi air turbo 1.7l petrol!!!

That's only available in the Cloverleaf, and that's actually fairly sluggish - unless it's in D. When it's in D, it's burns through fuel at a pretty alarming rate.

I'd say the 170 Veloce is the one to go for. Will have much lower running costs than a Cloverleaf, but still decent performance. Haven't actually driven a 170 (more than a few yards), but the 1.6d was a pretty decent performer in D, and incredibly frugal in N.

Sent out a lovely looking 170 Veloce last year, in Competizione Red (€1700 option). Driver is delighted with it, and no issues so far - but then again, he's only had it 10 months and is only down to do 13,000km per year.

That will be a nice motor when it comes back.

Put me down for a test drive :-)
I'd upgrade to a giulietta from the MiTo. Definitely recommend the multi air engine and personally I love the modern alfa look.

I drove the 1.4l 170 petrol and loved it but I need to stay with a diesel, I drive 400 miles a week.

I'm looking for a 2010/2011 Alfa Red or white model, browsing autotrader I like these white and red

Away on holidays at the end of March so will be looking harder when I get back!

Real MPG with Honest John shows the 1.6l is very good on fuel, the 2l 140 is decent too. There is a place up the North called Donnellys which I must get in contact with.

Put me down for a potential customer when it comes back!

The D mode he's referring to is on the DNA system that all modern Alfa's have (Dynamic, Normal, All Weather), not D on an auto box :D
Ah yes, I copped that when reading the post above!! Silly me!

The 156 reputation was ruined by feckless owners who didnt take care of them

I had one from new for 8yrs...ok the timing belt interval getting halved was a bitter pill to swallow every time it needed doing but it never let me down

I'm afraid Lex holds a bit more sway with me Tea, as he's ordered cars from me. Not for himself mind - bit too tight to pay BIK on an Insignia I hear :D
