Hi guys. Brought my car to the garage to get a new wheel bearing on monday, turned out she needed two bearings and tracking done. Anyway got all that done and 6 hours later she was ready so I went and got her and when I parked the handbrake came up way further than normal and seemed looser, this definitely wasn't like this before that. I went in and said it to my Mam but she convinced me it was grand. Came up to college last night and our driveway is sloped, came out this morning and the car was at the end of the drive and halfway across the road. We're on a bend so I can't believe how lucky I actually am that nobody was hurt or anything damaged.

Anyway my question is if the mechanic will fix it for free if I bring it down tomorrow? It was definitely his fault, I noticed it as soon as I got it back but was told it was my imagination. And is it ok to park it in first gear until then? Thanks!

What bearings were changed? Front or rear?

It is good practice to always leave the car in first gear as well has having the handbrake applied when parked. You should never depend completely on the handbrake.

Both rear. Yeah I've learned that lesson the hard way, will definitely be putting it into regular practice. Tracking was done aswel but she's pulling to the right even more to the right now. This is a fairly reputable garage in my locality aswel so I'm really surprised.

Sounds like they forgot to adjust the rear brakes shoes after replacing the bearings. It should be a quick and easy job for them to sort it out for you.
