Downgrading from 1.5 to 1.4.7

    My young lad uses Minecraft and today updated to 1.5. Now the servers he uses online are not compatible as they are running 1.4.7. He uses one from boards users (his username: Rob_Mine).

    I have tried to revert back to 1.4.7 by deleting the bin folder with the jar files and then starting the app. It reloads from mojang servers and brings back 1.5

    First, I find it odd that it is not backwards compatible. Is this the case or is there a workaround ?

    Second, Can I revert back to 1.4.7 ? He has a fully paid account so it is not the hacked versions. The website has links to 1.4.7 but they are not active to any location. It appears they have only the new version.

    Thanks

    Very easy to fix.

    Visit this page to download the minecraft.jar file;
    http://www.minecraftmine.org/minecraft-1-4-7-jar-download-minecraft-1-4-7-jar/

    Copy and replace the minecraft.jar file in the C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin folder and run Minecraft again.

    If you can't find the folder just type %appdata% into the search box on the PC. :)

    Thank you very much. That fixed it.

    I assume over the next few weeks most will migrate to 1.5 and he can update then ?

    Are minecraft versions not backwards compatible ?

    Yeah, it's not such a big deal with single-player, but multi-player servers will take a while to catch up
    with the new 1.5 version because of all the many plugins that are used, and each one's compatibility with
    the new Minecraft v1.5 etc.
