Basically, the massive hole they seem to be endlessly digging opposite the College bar. Underground carpark/ basement/ dungeon?

Human Biology Building, it'll be about 4 stories tall. Enabling works are being carried out now for the basement.

A flash player for a simple slideshow? Hashtag *sigh*

Their simulated people also don't seem to be from Galway given what they are wearing.

Excellent! When is it supposed to be finished?

Well it has to actually start construction first as what's going on now is enabling works to allow them begin construction. I'd reckon it'll be some time in 2015 before lectures take place in it.

2015? I'd say it'll be well finished before lectures start in Sep 2014. I'd expect it to start flying up fairly fast over the Summer... JJ Rhatigan seem to be on the ball.

It's Coffey construction which are carrying out the enabling works, their contract was to just demolish the building that was there and ready the site for the proper construction to begin under a later contract which I think is at tender stage. There's an awful lot of work in building the basement alone as every pipe and cable need to be rerouted, site needs to be waterproof and they aren't permitted to use explosives.

What I want to know is why the new library extension hasn't been opened in phases to ease the pressure on the library. It's a joke to expect people to study in classrooms/theatres that only have one or two plugs when laptops are so central these days.

Ah you haven't seen the area on the james hardiman library site mentioning what the whole building will really be used for, not for undergrads anyway. They mention that it'll be used for research purposes so I gather it'll be assigned desks for postgrads seeing as each one has an individual bookshelf as you can see from the outside. The remainder of the building will be for the archives and special collections which will move from the old library. I hope they will convert these spaces in the current library into study zones because it's ridiculous that it has almost the same capacity as it did 40 years ago.

They really screwed over the students on this one as any new proper study areas (more than likely requiring a new building) cannot really be built close to the concourse anymore because of the new psychology and this waste of space... and if you think they could build something where the old sheds used to be between the canteen and the bank, that's gonna be a new secure bike park facility with keycard access.

Ah yeah but they put an extra three study desks on the 2nd floor of the library only just last year.
Fair enough there isn't any power sockets on them and there's ~12,500 undergrads; but a there's a whole three lines of desks.
