    Hey guys,

Golfing for the first time this year on Friday. Last time i was out was with new golf shoes and they cut up my feet. Now i know i should probably have broken them in but i have bad feet anyway. Was thinking of bandaging my feet to stop them from getting cut again. Any advice here from more seasoned players?

    Your feet sound awful!
Picturing them spontaneously combusting as I type this :)

    Here's a few I've heard/seen people doing

Compact newspaper into them and leave them for a few days
Grab the toe and heel and force the mid section up and down to loosen them up a bit.
Put Vaseline on your feet before you put you socks on.

The only time I ever had trouble with footwear was on rare summers days playing football. I'd just get the water bottle and drench my feet with the boots on. (As thirsty teammates looked on in disgust :) )

This might sound obvious, but if they're causing that much hassle, why not go up a size or half size and wear thicker socks.

Yeah, double socking is an obvious thing. I just thought sore feet would be a common enough complaint for people here that they might have some tips! Cheers!

    What shoes did you buy?

    Should have bought Footjoys?

I got a few pairs of asics running socks on sports direct a while ago, they are the only socks I've ever had that have a right and left marked on them. They're designed to prevent blister in specific areas of the foot. Can't recommend them highly enough. Suffered with blister for years with golf shoes and football boots and these are the only thing I've found that consistently work.

I'll try finding a link for you.

Adidas ATV Tour's by any chance?

My first pair of ATV's were a dream, lovely shoe, but they developed a leak. Thankfully American Golf replaced them, however my new pair of ATV's cut both heels up to bits. Never really had issues with my feet before, so just put it down to having to break in the shoes. They were grand for a while, and then a few weeks back, i was crippled again after them, so much so i had plasters on my feet for a good 2 weeks.

Thankfully, American Golf took them in, and i'm now gone to the new Nike's Lumina, or whatever they're called. Rory wears them (so they must be good ;))

Advice for getting over it, laugh all ye want, but i bought those compeed plasters that women wear. Fixed me up good and proper, the plasters were just coming off in my socks. I'd recommend those.

Op I have big problems breaking in new golf shoes too. Had the problem with foot joy and Adidas. I have quite wide feet and what works a treat is taking the insoles out until I've worn them enough to stop hurting. Then there is no hassle just put the insoles straight back and no problems from then on.

I will say it does tend to only happen with golf shoes but that's because they are tougher/harder type of shoe in my exp.

Footjoy softjoys are as comfortable as you can get. Also available in wide fit.

Is there much difference in the soft joys and the aql? I had the aql and found them brilliant once I'd broken them in.

Nike Lunar Control. New model just out, older model can be got relatively cheap for a premium golf shoe. I owned a pair of the older model, top quality comfort and never leaked. I really couldn't fault them aside from the fact they got a little tired looking in the white I had

I would say the AQLs are not as comfortable but are better in the wet
They are still comfortable once you break them in but the softjoys were like slippers from day one. Great summer shoe

    Nike Lunar Control

One small step for man, one giant leap for Rory's bank balance

FJ man meself. Best shoe out there. Etonic can be v.good.
You get what you pay for.

Footjoy Dryjoys.........never needed to break them in ever.

If your shoes cut into you or cause blisters then I'd change your shoes rather than use plasters, two socks etc. Get the right shoes and dump any that need "breaking in".

    Second that RE Footjoys,

Got a pair of FJ Icons last year and super comfortable from day one. Straight out and played 18 and not a hint of a blister. Lovely soft leather and very waterproof most comfortable shoes I've ever had.

Previously had the FJ Sport and no breaking in problems there either, very comfortable too but despite looks not as comfortable as the Icons

Realise they are expensive (had one another pair so part trade in)but when your going to get good wear out of them its well worth the extra few euros. When a new style comes out most places sell off last years cheap if your lucky enough to find the right size left in stock

I am around an 11.5 size. Some brands fit better than others. I went up to 12 in a couple of pairs and found that the shoes slip up and down on my heel causing awful skin abrasion even after many wears. 2 pairs of socks are a must.
To avoid the abrasion on the heel, I found duct (duck?) tape around the heel with maybe some tissue or cotton cloth to be great.
I find that with new shoes it's not the brand as much as the fit.
I've had expensive FJ and Ecco shoes which were not near as comfortable as cheaper Nike and Addidas.
Try before you but is the moral of the story...

+1 for Footjoy Dryjoys Tour - brilliant shoe and super soft leather

I have the atv's also and I find them very comfortable but the inner heel area has ripped to shreds. I do wear foot joy golf socks and these are thick and comfortable, the the heel ripping is not so much of an issue. I wonder how the new adizero are like comfort wise? Comfort is their big selling point no? I held them in my hand in my local pro shop and they weigh nothing! My only concern is if they might fall apart after playing a few "wet" rounds, which, lets face it, we will get plenty of in this country
