    Hi guys,

Got one for you I just failed my NCT for a failed rear shock. I'm pretty skint and my company just got liquidated so im on a month to month. Is there anyone people would recommend to do the rear shock job for reasonable money?

    I'm based in Dublin 6

These are really easy to change. Any half decent mechanic should be able to sort it out for you.

I needed 2 rear shocks for a TT coupe a few years back and nobody could source them at that time. Ended up having to buy them through dealer for big money.

Same thing happened to me .... hit a pot hole on Dublin street, and then failed NCT a month later as rear suspension out of alignment.

    NCT readings were -20 m/Km. NCT limits are +18 to -18 m/Km

Went to my ususal service company and a tyre specialist - they said they couldnt realign the rear suspension, and I had to go to Charles Hurst Audi Centre in Sandyford. Cost over €3,000 to have rear suspension links and sub frame replaced.

They were very professional but I was stunned
    a) that the problem could not be fixed without replacing the rear suspension
    b) the cost

ps hit another pot hole last week and put small split in side wall of front tyre. Another €150 for a new tyre. The hidden cost of the dreadful standard of maintenance on our roads.....

A set of aftermarket adjustable tie rods and an alignment from someone who knows what they were doing (would recommend Blakes Cross)would have sorted you out for well under 500e. I had the same problem (-22) and you could see it in the way the rear wheel was angled which is due to the design of the TT suspension and non adjustable tie rods. Audi dealers will only recommend their solution ie to replace the suspension.
