NCT Issue

I have an issue with the 350z you might be able to help with.

It has failed the NCT test twice on a handbrake imbalance, detected through the road test using the decelometer (I asked then not to test it on the rolling road, due to the risk of damage to the LSD)

It has been in to Nissan twice who insist the brakes and handbrake are fine.

I believe my options are to go through the complaints procedure with the NCT, which is unlikely to be successful, or to have them test it on the rolling road. The tester assures me that he has tested multiple cars with LSD in this manner with no issue (though I would have to sign a disclaimer absolving the NCT of any liability in the event of damage)

Any thoughts would be much appreciated? Could wheel alignment be an issue?

    Thanks!

What is the issue with the LSD? I have one myself, but don't understand a problem on using it on the rolling road.

How would one detect a handbrake imbalance using a decelerometer?

    Exactly: you can't.

Seemingly, they drive in car park, engaged parking brake, and if car does not skid straight, it fails. To my mind, there are a number of variables which could affect this, including road camber, wheel alignment etc.

However, the people I have spoken to are adamant that this indicates a brake imbalance.

Thanks - Interesting thread. I had read it before going to the centre to make sure I was clear on what I should do.

However, now that it has failed, I am somewhat snookered.

That's basic! I agree, it's a long way from conclusive. I'd make a formal complaint to NCTS, bet they'll back down.

"adamant" ? sorry, but I just looked at the NCT fail sheet and there is no 'adamant' column. There are measured parameters - numbers - which they have to give you.

Otherwise I'd be calling their bluff and a solr's letter to follow, tbh.

By way of update, the car was passed yesterday, using the same test at a different test centre.

Mixture of relief that is resolved, and anger at having been gouged out of EUR 56 for two re-tests.

Thanks for the responses and input.
