How long is a piece of string?.Each angler will have their own various favourites for each method ,I mainly use nymphs hung under a clink hammer and find it works for me . Olives spinners and clink hammers are must have flies tied up to size 20 -24 are must haves IMO and nymphs tied in various sizes weighted and unweighted will also be required ,tight lines .

Wet flies and dry flies if possible. I have mainly used wet flies in past experiences myself. Yes I suppose flies for around march/april.

if fishing a big river, early season try black spiders bibios etc size 12/14 fished on a floating line with greased leader. if there is an early season hatch almost any dark fly 12/14 will work. butchers invicta etc on point are also useful.

It will be more small fast flowing rivers. Why is the leader greased and what length leader do you reckon? Thanks so much for the reply.

One of my favourite methods for early season rivers is a leaded heavy cased caddis or peeping caddis, pretty long about 20mm or so fished along the bottom of the river. Fished upstream under an indicator. It must be close to the bottom. Can work really well and accounted for four nice ones yesterday ;)
