Diesel Engine Overview

Got a problem with our tractor and the dealer is fixing it. However, I'm not 100% up on the workings of a diesel engine in general.

Does anyone know of a website that would give a good overview of their workings, including injectors, pumps, govenors, and how screwing out the pump can increase power - and what is the correct way to increase the Hp?

I was told screwing out the pump was the short cut way by a friend.

Best way to increase Horse Power is buy a bigger tractor. Screwing out the pump only really works with turbo charged engines. Some models seem better suited than others to this treatment, deere 3350's and Fiat 100/90's for instance, along with Ford 7840's. Dont think you are going to bolt a turbo onto a 10,000 hour engine and screw up the pump to give 125HP where you had 95 before, and your engine to have a long and happy life.
Best book to explain diesel engine operation that I have found is "The RYA book of diesel engines" by Tim Bartlett. Published by Adlard Coles Nautical. www.adlardcoles.co.uk

Re doing the engine is really putting the power level back to what it was day one.
