Accident in France

So i slid on the slush in France and wacked my front wheel off a divider. No-one hurt and no other cars involved. Limped to my destination and found a VW dealer. The damage consists of a bent front assembly thing that holds the wheel (the whole wheel is shifted back and rubbing in the wheelwell), and a knackered wheel etc.

I wonder how long it's going to take to get a quote and/or for insurance to say yae or nae?

They were saying it might be not worth fixing (it's a Mk 3 Golf) - thing is i've had lots of work done on it and it has many new parts, so to me it's worth more than the book price.

Anyone been in a similar situation with an accident in France?

So you're Irish with an Irish policy and a damaged motor in France?

Your Insurer doesn't care about how valuable the car is to you just how valuable it actually is on the market.

If they write it off, you could choose to buy it back off them and have it repaired locally.

As for timing / length of repairs, that's really down to you and them.

What a nightmare, hope it works out OK for you.

"Limped to my destination and found a VW dealer". This may be your first problem. If FRA is like IRL, that'll cost you!

Get car to a local indy, tell them to fit pattern / generic parts & get it back on the road for you.

I wouldnt bother going through insurance anyway. Same happened me. The cost of the repair was significantly less than the excess!
