Great that Ireland has a decent Porsche dealer run by the dynamic joe Duffy group looking at their website at cars sold and their new/ used stock you would think we were still in the Celtic tiger days ! Know Audi a6 bmw5 series and merc e class were selling well but thought top end of market was dead ? Whatever about driving s hand model it seems a bit vulgar these days to buy a new high end car like Porsche these days ? Think even I win lottery couldn't justify buying a new Hugh end car look at how low priced the many used porsches for sale are in this country similar values to uk prices that's some depreciation ! New cayenne v8 dsl is suppose to be fantastic though !

If I had the money, I'd buy one.

If you won the lotto you wouldn't buy a new car? Jaysus it'd be straight to Munich with me to buy two - a weekend "beater" and a daily :D

Just because the ecomony is in the shítter doesn't mean we all have to live like paupers. If people can afford some new cars then let them buy, no need for the "No recession here" commenting on it, they're just doing their best to stimulate the economy :pac:

There's been hardly any new Porsches sold in Ireland since Belgard shut up shop after the boom collapsed.

Around 50 a year sold in the good times, which dropped to 1 or 2 a year for the last few years. This year is probably up a good bit thanks to a pretty much all new model range and a main dealer in place.

I know a dealer in the luxury end of the market and last year was their best year in the previous 6, with this year shaping up well also. The people with money always had money, they just stopped spending for a while.

If I had the cash there'd probably be a 991 sitting in my drive.

rabble rabble rabble What business is it of yours and why would you give a damn what someone does with their own earned money.

Hundreds of thousands of people in this country are barely / not at all affected by the recession. If only they stopped sitting on their money and spend a bit of it on Porsches and what not, we'd be out of this recession a lot quicker!

I see Irish begrudgary is still alive and well instead of being positive that some people are doing well for themselves. If someone has done well enough to buy themselves a Porsche then why should they not treat themselves?

I got all of that "Woooo, no recession 'round here "sh!te when I bought mine, and it's only a scruffy 924 that cost me less than a tax disc. :D

    ....possibly.

But the fact you can tax a new Cayenne or Panamera now for €750 and they have lower VRT due to lower emissions is a help as well.

Thats not much more tax than I'm paying for a 12 yr old Audi 1.8 !

Ah Here have you not heard about the new "equality" agenda?

If I can't afford it then there's no way you should have one ;)

I'm sure they have Porsche dealerships in Munich but you'd getter a fresher selection in Stuttgart, Porsche's home city.

Always thought the 924 and 944 were great looking cars.

It's just if u buy these vehicles new in other countries they hold their value in this country it's just lots of money down the drain ! Maybe lower sales these days will improve values of them in future years ! If you buy say a 2008/2009 Porsche you are getting great value ! Wonder if hursts in Belfast are selling any new bentleys or ferraris down south these days unlikely !

The other day I sow brand new jag pass by. The first thing that came in to my mind - thank you for not buying another 520d and blessing the grey roads with something beautiful.
Just because I can't afford those nice cars, does not mean I don't want to see them on the road. Fair play to anyone who still buys nice cars.

The OP was using Porsche as an example. I chose a different car manufacturer as mine ;)

    Er, no.

New cars NEVER hold their value, no matter where they're bought.

The only cars that do that are in Sothebys..........

I just love the fact that the only two Porsche dealers in the Republic for the last 20 years have been in Tallaght & Finglas. The aul import/export trade must not be too bad round there :D

I think the current Joe Duffy Porsche centre is based in Rochestown Avenue Dun Laoghaire

What's vulgar about buying a new car?

Should they just keep buying 520d's because...well, cheap tax?

I know someone (well, I say know, more know of) that upgraded from an S8 to a Panemera. As much as I think he's a knob, if I had the opportunity, I know I'd do the same.

Am I the only one that genuinely doesn't like porsches? Aside from their race cars, the 911 GT3 / RS, and RWB editions they're all similar shades of boring to look at.

I like them up as far as 993. Not pushed with any of the water-cooled jobs.

There's a few Porsche centres in Portugal, and they're worse off than us on average I reckon. Won't take off here til they come with teediddlyREDeyes.
