Do all VAG cars manufactured from 2007 onwards have that feature where when you unlock your car the front headlights light up? I have seen it with some golfs but wondering is it a feature with all VAGS?

    Thanks.

You need auto lights for them to switch on when opening the car and only then they will do so only when the headlights would have been required for driving. You can leave the lights in the on position and they will stay on for 30 secons or so after locking the car.

My 2011 Passat has it. I just leave the headlight switch at the "Auto" position and it works as previous poster mentioned. I actually never have to touch that headlight switch. It auto-switches when it gets dark for example.

Mine switch on when unlocking the car and I don't have auto lights, well I don't think I do anyway. Fairly sure they switch on regardless of it being daylight or night also.

Is there an auto dimming mirror? Usually have auto lights on newer models with that.

No you have to press a button to dim the mirror, not an old style clip that just moves the mirror but an actual button on the mirror that dims it and a green light illuminates to indicate its active.

Unless of course that button is just supposed to be pressed at all times and then its auto, never thought of that until now.

There is one other setting on the lights other than parks and full lights but I think I looked it up and its a "follow me home" setting, there is no "auto" setting.

Thats gas. Yes, that is the fully auto dimming mirror you have. Leave the green light on always. It does nothing until a bright light comes behind you. It then darkens as required.

I'm an awful idiot :o. Don't know why I never copped onto that. I think its because I had an auto dimming mirror in my last car that had no on/off switch so just assumed it had to be switched on and off and then never thought about it again.

    This feature:

    http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/glossary/coming-home-leaving-home-system
The 'coming home' and 'leaving home' functions are designed to improve your convenience and comfort. When you get out of your car, various lights, including the dipped-beam headlights, courtesy lights in the exterior mirrors, rear lights and number-plate lighting, all stay on for a short while before they are switched off automatically. The same lights are switched on when you unlock your car with the remote control. In this way your car's lights help to illuminate the way to and from your front door, whenever you arrive or set off in the dark. Note the functioning described does differ between models, please refer to the model pricelists for specific details.

Think you can switch it on and off with VAGcom also.

My 2004 Golf has auto lights and auto rear view mirror. It's got this feature and the lights only come on when unlocking it at night. I'm fairly certain it can be turned off with vagcom as Im currently looking to do so.

My Audi S4 has the spotlights come on when unlocked rather than the headlights.

Well were already on when I bought the car, but there is a little dial by the main headlight rotary switch, just press it, it pops out, then turn it and press in again, Bob's your uncle.
It should be in the manual.

I got my octavia vRS re-programmed so as the fogs come on instead of the dims.

I enabled them on my 2009 passat highline with vcds and the woman's 2005 golf. Along with leaving and coming home lights

Main reason I did it was to avoid the HID's turning on an doff for short periods as it is not good for them :)

    Honestly :p
