Ok in the market for a change of motor, Im trying to find some info on the 02ish model corolla 1.4 diesel.

    Are they reliable
    Are 2nd parts expensive
What will I have to look out for when buying one?

    Any info would help.

There wasnt a 1.4 diesel till 2004, they were 2.0 till then.

Can't remember if the 1.4 diesel actually came in 3 door in Ireland, I think they were all vans.

Vans were pretty much all 1.4 from 04 onwards. A lot of them are wrecked at this stage.

We had a 2006 1.4 d4d corolla van and I couldn't fault it. Great van reasonably powerful. I don't think the 1.4 d4d van was out till 2004 the 2002 were defiantly 2l without a doubt. Tbh corolla vans are rare now and you are going to pay for one specially if its been well minded. Our one caused no trouble and there was about 160k km on it when we sold it.

Well on the 2.0 you're looking for a violent jerk on start up indicating that the dmf has gone out to lunch, clicking noise from the injectors and erratic power delivery suggesting duff injectors, whiney gearboxes etc
Then there's the bodywork, a lot of these were ran by companies for surveyors, reps etc and a lot have been on the wrong side of a ditch.
I've driven plenty of these and unless you can get a nice one that's been minded there's no point in buying.

To be honest I don't mind paying that extra bit if she in good nick. But us there anything at all like I would have to look out for

you'd also be looking for signs of previous accidents, mismatching paint, weird panel gaps, car pulling to one side etc.
