If its a dog not a puppy you're looking for it might be worth contacting any rescues/shelters in your area. They should be able to advise you on how their dogs are with other dogs and cats. Most reputable rescues will have a policy where if things don't work out they will take the dog back.

I was thinking that but I would really love a puppy as my dog can be very affectionate towards puppies but with bigger dogs she can be a mixed bag

    Hello,

What type of dog do you currently have? I ask because 2 years ago we got a male Giant Schnauzer, not quite as big as a Leonberger, but nearly!! We already had a female Mini Schnauzer with a very timid temperament, the GS was overwhelming for her, even from his size as a puppy.
Although they are both lovely dogs in their own right, they are very different in personality. It took quite some time for them to forge a bond and only recently has that developed as the GS has matured. I put this down to his sheer size and hyper personality for the first 18 or so months. My advice is if your dog is older and in any way has a nervous or timid disposition a much larger breed may not be the right match.

She sounds exactly like our Mini Schnauzer. Size was the big issue for us, the GS thinks he's the same size as the smaller dog, but can overwhelm the smaller dog even now!!He is a gentle giant with kids though.

The larger breeds seem to be better with cats etc compared to the smaller breeds that tend to give chase. Have you found a breeder and has the litter arrived yet? The breeder is key, I would recommend carrying out as much research on the breed and the chosen breeder, as you can before making the purchase.

Do you have space in your home and garden? Our GS attends daycare as we work full time, this has been a god send in terms of exercise daily and socialisation.
