Solid Fly Wheel or Dual

    Hi all,
    Just looking from some advice - I have a Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 06 2.0 TDCI 5-speed and the flywheel is on the way out.
    Would you recommend going with the Solid Flywheel ?
    Has anyone experienced problems on this type of car following conversion to solid flywheel ?
    Would you recommend any particular flywheel manufacturer over another ?

    I had a look before I bought my mondeo and from what I gather they help protect the gearbox from bumps n rattles internally etc and give smoother gear changes

    I am unsure if you can get a solid for the TDCi engine, I know that you can for the TDDi.

    In my experience the Ford diesels don't react well to solid flywheel conversions. The extra vibrations are very noticeable on them.

    Was talking to a taxi driver about a year ago as I was going to buy one. He was saying that they had a solid flywheel in that model mondeo. Had over 450k km on the clock too. I understand, but am open to correction, that a solid flywheel will work ok in the 5 speed box but for some reason not the 6 speed regardless of whether its tddi or tdci. George dalton on here is well up on it though so he may well set the record straight

    Yes as above the 5 speed gearbox works quite well with the solid flywheel conversion, the 6 speed box sounds like a bag of spanners with a solid flywheel fitted. We have fitted a good few solid conversions to the 5 speeds even though we always recommend sticking with the dual mass setup.

    If you are going for a solid flywheel conversion try to get a Valeo kit. There are other cheaper kits around but the quality of the clutches in them is questionable IMO.

    To be honest if it was my own car I would just fit a dual mass rather than a solid flywheel. The only Mondeos we have ever had to do a flywheel job more than once on are taxis so I would expect the job to be a one-off from the OP's point of view.

    Yeah in my experience the fords prefer to be replaced with like for like. Anyways the dual mass kit should be fairly reasonable priced now. But make sure u get a lux kit as I've found them to be the best

    Thanks everyone for replying. It is very much appreciated.

    At first I was worried about having to do the flywheel again at some stage and the extra cost for a Dual Flywheel but given that the car has 117K miles on it, I will probably have moved on it on by the stage it gets anywhere near needing being done again.

    So in terms of driveability and less vibrations it is best to stick with the Dual mass one - would this be correct ?

    I guess that the labour costs are the same to fit either but the dual mass flywheel costs more.
    Can anyone give me a guidance on prices for fitting the dual mass and for the solid so I can have a ball park price for when I get it done ?
    I have seen on the motors forum that the solid flywheel is around €800 so I guess the dual mass would work out around €150 more would this be correct ?

    Our prices would be around €800 for solid vs €900 for dual mass.
