Is strabismus heriditary? if one parent has an eye squint what are chances of offspring having same, does anyone have any experience of this?

2-4% of population have strabismus

Parent with a strabismus. Child tested at one year of age with low hyperopia(longsighted)<3D about 10% chance of developing a turn before 7 years old

Parent with a strabismus. Child tested at one year of age with high hyperopia (longsighted) >3D about 50% chance of developing a turn before 7 years old

Early intervention is best. If you suspect a turn get you child checked out as there are vision developemental milestones to be met before seven years of age.
After that success in improving the vision is very limited.

Thanks for reply, had my little 7 month old tested yesterday by a specialist and thanfully he is using both eyes equally, he will be retested in one years time but all looks well at present.
So worrying as have been through it myself but my mind is at ease now.
