can any one give me a bit of advice, today i was vacinating 20 horned ewes and the last one skipped over the pen and up the hill.i could not get her enticed back into the pen before the vacine died. rather than buy more heptavac should i just let her go without it and take my chance, or will the others spread it to her anyway, this is my first ever lambing season. so sorry if its a stupid question. thanks.

some vaccines have the ability to spread from one to another aslong as the strike rate is high, up around 95%, Im talking about pneumonia vaccinations. I wouldnt have a clue about Heptavac but would think this wouldnt be the case.

Probably get slated for this. Save what Heptevac you have in the fridge. If you get her in again give her 2ml of it.

Seen it done for many years with no ill effect. Not saying it'll have full or proper effect. And I personally for my own sheep prefer to use from fresh out of the fridge vaccine, but, that's what I'd do. Unless you can get a mighty handy 2ml from a neighbour who's doing his same day you get her in again but how often does that happen......

The way I handle vaccines if I wasn't going to use the full bottle is put a clean needle in the bottle and leave it there an fill the syringe through that. When you're finished then put a little strip of sellotape over the hole and put it back in the fridge.
In your position I'd put it in the fridge and give it another time too, it doesn't really justify doing anything different

This discussion came up on here before , and one of the lads said to drip hot candle wax onto the soft rubber top so it hardens and seals it .

Still havent got around to trying it myself but it sounds good in theory

heptavac is not a live vaccine. always seal bottle with the wax, works well and i often keep a part used bottle for 3 months
