Hows it going, I am in 6th year, planning on going to DCU next year and doing Communication studies, anyone doing it that could tell me how it is, maybe even how the hours are etc.
I am not fussy about doing alot of hours but just curious, thanks! :)

Hi David - I'm a Multimedia student, and one of the things I hear regularly from Communications students who are more into the technical aspect of things is that they wished they had done Multimedia. That said, the Comms course is pretty great, so long as you want to be more in front of the camera, PR, marketing, that kind of thing. If you want to work the technology behind the scenes, MMA is your best bet.

So Multimedia is more the actual photography, film making etc end of things?

    if you compare communications subjects
and the http://www.dcu.ie/registry/module_contents.php?function=4&programme=MMAMultimedia subjects here, you can see they are similar but communications does have more theory modules. I always felt the audio/video/imagining level in multimedia was more advanced starting off, but possibly finishes at about the same level. It also had more emphasis on web.

If you have a particular area such as filmmaking you want to go into I would more advise you look for a course solely in that. As broad courses like communications are hard to get a job straight out of unless you really worked on building up a portfolio in your desired field.
