i would never buy car if somebody sell it on behalf other person... is it his sisters ? neighbors ? friends ??? could be God know whose car it is, and might be after a week or two, youll see Garda questioning you, where you got that car, who sold it, how seller look like, where did you met seller... etc... and they will be collecting car away, and youll be out of pocket.

Yep his number brings up loads of cars. If he can lie bout something this small he's not to be trusted IMO.

As the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Anyway, if I was buying an Avensis, I would be buying the 1.8, it's much better equipped, is faster and probably more economical as well.

As in he possibly buys stuff at auction/cars for cash etc, then poses as a private seller with the same story he told you about his sister, pays no income tax etc etc, no co me back and he has as little clue about the cars history as you have.

If the surname on the reg cert is the same as his then fair enough. I'd put money on them being different. Of course shell have married and have a different surname. The reg plates are hidden, so running the reg through motortax.ie to show that its had a change of ownership in the last month isn't an option either.

Now of course there's the outside chance that his sister owns the car and the story is true, and he just happens to sell cars through donedeal a lot and this is a one-off

It means Midlands was right, that you have to run away. , not a good thing, advice is NOT TO BUY !!!!!

But you may choose buy, we are just to advice, not to tell, do or not do.

It doesn't automatically make the car bad or anything though. Just these sort of stories annoy me

Lol Dammit too late for that now
    I already sold my car
Here is a long story(just 1 week ago)2004 toyota avensis
I bought a car from donedeal off a person for 2600E, next day I was driving it and the gear was not working properly so I went to mechanic and he said it would cost 500E to replace damper
So i rang the guy who sold the car and he was like ''oh i will pay half''
So the car cost me then 2900E
Now I am still unsure about the car so Asoon as I saw the 2006 I was like yes this is my chance so I put an ad up for my car which i installed the damper on and a guy rang me offering 2950E and I accepted it and he is coming to view tomorrow
Atleast I will not worries about the car but I am now without a car lol

As colm_mcm said, if think you have to run away , it does not make car bad. and he is right. If you really after that car, maybe get mechanic with you to inspect the car, connect the diagnostics .

There is no need to rush, if you without car, maybe no need to buy stright away first cheap car. Rent a car for few days, drive for your own business and pop around to look on cars.

I think to rent a car in this time of the year could be pretty cheap.

I'd keep the car you have, at least te seller was decent when it went wrong. It isn't sold till the other guy pays for it,

yes, pretty common is bring mechanic to buy a car, some my friends asked my help to look in cars, what they want to buy. there is number things to look on.

Usually is 50 euro charge, for car inspection in local area. if you have to go hundreds miles away, could be more expensive.

BTW... why are you selling your own car ? it is fixed now.

    Lol
How was he decent when he paid half the money
It be better off if he paid nothing
I have a hint that there will be some other problems coming out of the car soon

How would you be better off if he paid nothing? Most sellers would tell you to get stuffed.

If it were me I'd get the existing car checked over and make an informed decision as to whether to keep the car or not.

Because it was a private sale, you have no comeback and you didn't get the car checked out before buying it. He could easily have told you to go away and pay all of it yourself. Most sellers would have imo.

You really need to bring someone who knows about cars with you next time or else you will end up buying an expensive lemon. You have been very lucky upto now.

Actually he had rights to not pay anything, as on private sale, there is no warranty at all, you did look on car, you agreed on price, and current condition (as you checked car.. dont you ?? drove it and found it on acceptable condition) , after you handed to owner cash and seller signed logbook, it is your car, with all problems, which comes up in near future.

In that seller place, i wouldnt give any cash back.. full or half, as it is now on new owners responsibility.

Maybe fix your current car, and it will serve you number good years. , as toyota is good make, mine 15 years old one passed test lately in first go.

Lol No have to stick to newer models I have been with a 97 VAN since 2000 so I think its only fair to buy a 3500 below car in the year of 2005+

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,352 ✭✭✭Mar4ix

lol, i cant afford car younger than 2000 8 years since i am in Ireland now, so need to drive what you afford.

Regarding 2006 toyota, in carzone cheapest is 4500, and i cant look on carzone right now, as it is down for some reason.

so 3 k for 2006 car, sound a bit like too cheap, so if you get that car, deffo will be no come backs from sellers side, as he will tell you that car had lowest price , and condition was reflected in to price.

Maybe get that car, and get it right, at the end , youll get it within regular market price, but with new parts.

Anyway, this is how i am doing, i bought my avensis for 500 (with some tax on nct), invested another 600 in parts, now no problems at all. at the end it was slightly over average market price, but it is in perfect mechanical condition.

I agree with suspicious on seller but the price doesnt look that "too good to be true" is it? i have an 1.6 05 Avensis with less on the clock and i would only expect in or around that price, maybe high 2's??

    YEP
just this morning the guy came to collect for 2950
and then my dad went to mayo to get the car and he checked and tested it out and he said its all perfect, nothings wrong with it, he got it for a grand deal of 2950 for a 2006E!!!!!!! for 99 miles.
Would be probably home by 10pm left mayo just 1 hour ago
Delighted looked at the internet and they go for 5000E average
Could make a hefty profit if I were to sell it lol

    Lol,
Looks like not everything has a happy ending.
(1)one of the mirror light of the front passanger seat won't turn on while the other will
(2)one of the back passanger door will only open from outside, not inside
(3)cup holder is very rusted and needs a bit of refining and repairing

Overall how much do you guys think this will cost ??

    (1) Those bulbs are cheap enough to buy at a motor factors.
    (2) Check that the child lock is not switched on.
    (3) If it is the cup holder on the dashboard then maybe source a replacement from a scrap yard.

Sure if Child lock was on would it not affect the other door, does child lock not lock 2 doors at once ?

Nope, child lock has to be set on each rear door.
