[Jaguar] Diagnostics

A bit of advice please. My friend has a 05 Jag. Tried to start it, but all clocks on the dash showed just black lines across them. Got it to main dealer who put it on Diagnostics. The print out gave a number of possible faults which they checked out,all components (including battery) passed. For some reason the car started and he was called in and given the car back. Two days later , same thing ---- got it back to dealers who discovered Battery wasnt giving out 12 volt reading. Changed battery .Two days ---- same problem --- wont start and black lines across all clocks. Now he paid 400E the first time and they charged 180 the second time (reducing to 100 after argument). Now the question is --- are they allowed an open ended situation, where they seem to be GUESSING what the problem is , and allowed to charge what they like??. They justify charging big money for plugging in cars to this Diagnostic system because of the capital costs of them but it seems to me that its open game on the owner for fitting "Possible Fault" parts that might not need to be fitted. Any advice as how to approach this, welcome, thanks

I think, thats really buyers market, before do diagnostics, have to ask how much they will charge, and any warranty on work, i would expect warranty on 400 euro worth job, if same fault comes back within certain time, it has to be diagnosed and repaired free of charge... thats my thoughts, if that garage still want charge ... avoid them, and find other garages. use google, pretty helpful service, if you type jaguar diagnostics, it will give at least one local garage, ... not sure you used it, maybe give a call., ask them for price and warranty on job, if they sound professional, then go , if they say.. give us a call tomorrow, or after tomorrow... avoid also.

Look in some garages in North Ireland, might there youll find descent garage, i know, youll spend some sort of money for using recovery truck .. but again shop around, and maybe will get some private guy, who does recovery job, for affordable money) .

There is some forums, where you may ask your question, what fault it could be.

    Just my two cents.

If you're anywhere close to Wexford try Derek Dickenson, he knows his stuff.
Give him a ring to start with.

Oh and approach the manager about paying 400 and fault is still not fixed.
