Ok so there are two courses I want, Digital Media in Maynooth or Games Development in Carlow. Both require a B3 in Maths. What way does doing a PLC in Computers Science work? It is a FETAC PLC level 6. Will this allow me to do either course once I finish it?

Are you just completing the level 6 and looking to go on this year?

You would have to check with your college whether they have any sort of arrangement with either of those courses for progression, and if the course you are doing is appropriate.

You also need to check the website for the colleges you want to apply for and see do they accept FETAC - and you may find the requirements are quite precise in terms of modules, if they do.

You also need to check how having level 6 applies - strictly speaking it is the equivalent of first year of HETAC (Higher Education as against Further Education) so you may have grant issues, but you have to enquire.

Be aware that if you do not have the maths you could find yourself in difficulties doing the course, its a very common reason for people having problems - there is a good reason why they ask for maths in the lc.

If you are over 23 you might get round these issues and apply as a mature student.

The safest thing to do would be to ask in your college, they will have the more accurate information about which of their courses match third level courses.

I would be going on to one after 6th year. They do accept them afaik, it just says something about 3.33 distinctions or something. I know the level of maths needed, and I can do the maths required for what I am looking for (Programming, Script design)

You are extremely unlikely to get into a level 6 course unless you have done a level 5 first. Is it a 2 year course that does both 5 and 6?

All the other stuff I have said still applies, you really need to do some homework about who accepts what for getting into college. You will still be in competition with others and you would need to be aiming for all distinctions to have a realistic chance of getting a third level course on the strength of a FETAC course.

The PLC course is a level 6. Requirements are 5 passes in LC and C3 in Math. Isn't the LC not level 5 anyway?

Check out the creative media programmes at Templemore College. They do level 5 and 6 courses in games design and Animation and have 3rd level links to assist you with progression
