Non compete clause in contract

So i have been working for 23 months on a contract with an UK IT outsourcer. I have been working in a specific section of IT in a large Dublin based IT/Sales company.

I work with the internal IT team in this company but they are employed directly with the company and i am on a ever extending contract with the UK outsourcer.

Now say a position was to open up in the said company which i would be interested in applying for what are the legal constraints of a non-competition clause. I believe my contract specifies a 6 month period of non competition after contract termination.

My contract was originally 1 year but i am now approaching my second year. But getting a position directly with the company would have many benefits.

I would just like some guidance on the technicalities of this clause and does it continue to be valid as long as my contract is extended.

I was in a similar situation with a company this time last year. The main company bought out my contract with the agency.
