Can a bull weanling bull??

    Can a 8 month old bull calf put cows in calf? I have a shorthorn bull weanling running with cows that at the moment have just calved or on the verge of calving. I'm wondering if I'd better move him. He is the only one left from last year and I haven't any company for him. I hate going to mart with one!! But may have to!

    If you want a young bull to put cows/heifers in calf there's a good chance he wont. If you dont want him to do the deed you can be bloody sure he will. I'd get him out of there.

    if he's strong enough i.e. big enough to reach, then he definitely will do damage.

    The crown jewels will be working even at 8 months if that's what you're asking:D:D

    Have to admit that's what I was thinking too. He's probably big enough to reach. Looks like a wee trip to mart is on the horizon.

    Yeah they sure can, biggest issue is not with cows but with heifers as they start to have similar urges around the same age. Clam's maybe required if you want to keep him.

    short answer is yes he can.
    any cow calved more than 6wks would be at risk.

    had a bb heifier calf last year out of limo cow. father was 8 month old bb weanling. calved no bother and calf was a very good too
