    Neck deep organising the garage (except I'm taking a break on here!)

    Any tips on how to clean out the place & keep it sorted?

    Definately need a system for sorting the various tools. I'm thinking of getting a toolbox for the various types of tools like one for general DIY/plumbing/electrical/garden. Or maybe just a box/shelf for each type of job?

    What is your best space saving tip/item/system?

    Be careful of the temptation to hang stuff from the ceiling. Great idea on a bright summers evening when you want to make everything easy to see and find. F**king terrible idea when you are searching for something on a dark winters night and you walk slap bang into a bundle of long bamboo canes.

    Aldi have large 6 shelf high garage shelf units for 30 euro at the moment.

    Also some builders providers are selling ketter 5 shelf units for 20 euro.

    I've seen the selves alright.

    They look good but I think I should have enought storage space as is.

    I'm afraid if I put in more shelves I'd just fill them!

    :mad:Burn the thing down & start again!..... If it's anything like my shed full of items used once & being kept for what? tools which can never be found when needed or else paint, cement, silicon/glues gone hard & other old tat which will never be used!!

    Well I've already filled the wheely bin, the recycle bin twice, and a trip to the local recycling center with a car full of cardboard and styrofoam...

    So some progress...
    Now coffee break over & back to it...

    For insulation, I lined my shed walls with ply so the walls are ideal as "shadow boards" for tools with the occasional shelf here and there for cans, etc. Works well. Here's a how-to:
    • Fit a screw;
    • Hang the tool on it;
    • Draw the outline of the tool with a big ignorant bottle marker;
    • Make tea;
    • Dim the lights;
    • Flop into that old sofa that you just couldn't part with. Aaahhhhh!
    • Tomorrow, repeat above.
    Advanced shedders might like to group, say, mechanical tools on one wall, wood-working tools on another wall, inherited tools in a special area, etc. That is an ecumenical matter and I would never interfere with the layout of a man's shed.
