Hope somebody can help ,myself and partner currently rent a 2 bed apartment our bills our bills a steadily increasing despite using pretty much the same amount of electricity wash month ,we no dryer or gadgets that use a lot of power we an A rated washing machine, we got behind on a previous bill that's been cleared with a payment plan, now heres the problem while my partner was dealing with customer service about our bill she was informed that our apartment is getting the wrong voltage supplied apparently the equivalent of a 4 bed house instead of 8v were getting 16v if this is the correct term, and that we have to talk to our landlord ,but if your company is aware that our apartment is been supplied with the wrong power and that were paying over the odds for this error why can't we change to the correct power for the apartment as the bill is in our name partners name actually ,also are we entitled to be refunded the difference were been over charged for the last 2 years,

    Hi Gatling,

Domestic customers aren't charged extra if their MIC (Maximum Import Capacity) is 16kVa. This is something that would have been applied for by the owner/developer at the time the property was being built. It is more expensive to install a 16kVa connection; ESB Networks (a separate company that operate/maintain the grid on behalf of all suppliers) would have those details. But once it's installed you don't incur additional charges.

Most properties would either be 8/12kVa; additional capacity would sometimes be applied for in the case of the resident/owner having special equipment (such as underfloor heating, or two or more electric showers that may be used at the same time).

If you have any other questions please let me know.

    Thanks,

    David
