    From the Library blog -

The Library is delighted to announce that for 10 weeks (Monday 11th March – Friday 17th May, 2013) the first and second floors of the Berkeley Library will be available as study space for TCD members, with the Berkeley, Lecky and Ussher Libraries also open for study during a five week period within that: Monday 8th April – Sunday 12th May, 2013.
These study spaces are in addition to the 24 Hour Study Area on the first floor of the Ussher and the 1937 Postgraduate Reading Room which will operate as normal during this period.

Full details of the facility, including periods when it will not be available, can be found on our Opening Hours page under “24-Hour Study Access”.

An excellent and commendable move by the library and college administration. Bravo.

Fair play to the library, SU & college.
How are they managing to do this with all the cutbacks?

This is excellent. Hopefully a move towards having a 24hr library.

Numbers using the Berkeley so far are quite low. As are the numbers using the Library on Sundays. Not sure that the demand is actually there.

Sure we have the 24hr reading room and it's practically empty whenever I go in there really late or early -excluding around exams.

I think it would help if students could get access to campus after midnight

Who starts studying after midnight though?

You can leave to get food/drink/whatever and come back so that should be enough

Yes but then plenty of people would just head there after pubs close and disturb those studying. They could just be selective at the gate though.

Has anyone used the study space in the Berkley yet? What's the story with being let in 25 minutes past the hour? What if you want to go to the loo? Do you have to time it so it's before that time?

I have used it recently (I spent the entire night in the library finishing an essay) and it was grand. It was actually a bit unnerving when I realised I was the only person in the library at 4am!

The library attendants who work the night shift are really nice. You can use the Berkeley toilets during the '25 mins' so no bother there. One of the attendants let us back in after around 15mins because it was cold outside.

One problem: The Berkeley is freezing cold at the best of times so imagine what it's like at 4am! If you are planning on staying there through the night, bring a blanket, extra socks and a flask of tea if you can (no joke - I actually put my gloves on at one point!)

Great idea, I wish I had thought of that earlier! :)
