Hello I recently started a jobBridge two weeks ago in Cork. It is a assistant managers role but since I have started I spend 40 hours a week scrubing floors and cleaning. Every night I come home I am so tired from lifting and dragging stock all day that I go right to bed and do it all over again the next day. My social life is right out the window because I have no energy to do anything. I get two days off a week but ever back to back so I spend the day I have off doing nothing I cant go home (Waterford) because Im working the next day and I can't go to the pub as I would be hungover the next day in work. Paddys day is coming up and my boss says its the company's busiest day so I must work but it says that anyone on jobbridge has the right to a public holiday, but my boss says if I want manager experience I must work it. Its like im only the assistant manager when it suits the boss and im back to cleaning when im not. I don't know what to do?? Also are we meant to work weekends??? I cant find any information on this???

AfaIk you are entitled to Public Holidays but if you're manager is telling you he needs you then you need to discuss this with your local office because the whole point of it is that it's not supposed to displace somebody who could be in paid employment. It's in their terms and conditions

There is nothing to stop them having you work days like that, not having your two days off together. The only thing you can call them on is that what you're doing isn't as they described - if it's not. I think what you're meant to do is speak to the mentor you have in the position, and if it doesn't get resolved, speak to someone in JobBridge/FAS.

Sounds like a woefully **** position OP, feel bad for you. But do try get it resolved. And keep in mind you can leave any time you want, with a weeks notice.

Is there many else working there and what do they do ? It doesn't sound like your an assist manager by your description and whats going to change over the next 9 months. There is nothing wrong with cleaning but if thats all your really doing is that really adding to your skillset.

That's defo not an assistant manager role, not even trainee or supervisor

Seems they're one of the many companies taking the p*ss out of the jobBridge scheme

I suggest you report them and quit

A problem that arises out of this new back to work scheme is the problem that you can be given a job or part time job as an intern with a job description of computer work or secretarial work but the company can have you folding and packaging boxes of which would not be the job description that they offered you in the first place.

also this has to be policed as to stop companies using you as a form of cheap labour.

if this has happened to you and you are forced to do a job that was not in the job description by any company here in Ireland, contact the local authorities regarding your issue as this is Illegal for any company to do.

The same thing happened this lady (in video below) in regards to the internship scheme, it was not in the job discription so seek advice from citizens advice as they are taking advantage of your position.

    Annual Leave

Interns are entitled to all the Public holidays and 1.75 annual leave days per month of internship

the above is from the jobbridge website...the working time act specifies that as an alternative those worrking on a public holiday are entitlrd to an additional day off within a month or an additional days leave or an additional days pay - the latter doesnt apply
raise this with your fas contact point and if you dont get a reply within five working days write to]
