Unreasonable and Unfair thesis deadline

I am a student in D.I.T. and my thesis deadline is Wednesday which is unreasonably close. I am in a chemistry course and have a much shorter deadline that another course, which has a deadline of 22nd March. We have the same theses as each other (ie, both courses were allowed to choose from the same thesis list), yet my courses has a deadline of Wednesday coming and the others have a deadline of 22nd March, we are both being assessed on the exact same way and have to submit a thesis of the exact same length. I find this very unfair. People from the other course could have opted for my project, so basically a person in the other course has longer to do the same project, and yes, before you ask, we are both level 8 courses and we all have the same number of exam modules and CA modules this semester (in fact, I think the others have even less) :(

Is this fair / legal ?? Would I be successful in an appeal to the head of school ??

Get in touch with the SU, they should be able to help you out. Ask for the VP Education and Welfare, his name is Glenn

I would also have to ask how long you have known this for. If it was on your course docs at the beginning of term why didn't you spot it then? If there was a short-notice change of deadline you may have grounds for complaint, but not so much otherwise.

That shouldn't matter. The issue wasn't that the deadline was announced at short notice.
If 2 classes are given the same piece of work and one is given 10 weeks to complete it and the other 12, there could be the expectation that the 12 week papers would be slightly better.

Since papers will probably be marked against the same criteria (and to some extent each other), the system is unfair against the 10 week people.

If your working off a list then its beneficial to get in early as you get first choice, when you say the other class are they the same course?
