    Hi there.

So we've just rigged up our wii and we want to get retro games for it. I'm looking for recommendations.

We have mario world and Donkey Kong. What else is great?

The mode 7 levels no, but the other aspects of those games are still brilliant. They're balls hard at times though, not for the faint hearted :D

@o1s1n, I don't think Earthbound is on the Wii VC is it?

It's not. Though, Shigesato Itoi made vague rumblings about it recently.

Surely that'll be the Japanese VC & not the US/EU one?

Most likely, but if they're okay with the NTSC-J release, and assuming they've jettisoned the more copyright-baiting elements of the original version, then there's hope that we'll see Mother 2 this side of the planet. They can shut up a hearty contingent for a few weeks, 'til they start getting calls to officially release 1 and 3.

As you know from experience, people are very willing to pay for it. I mean, it says a lot about a game when so many people aren't happy just cracking away at a ROM. Why don't Nintendo like money? Granted, it ain't gonna propel them into a trillion-dollar company, but there's profit there to be made.
I mean that for the whole trilogy. Just commission Mato's already finished translation of 1&3.

There's definitely something fishy about NoA & the cageyness surrounding Mother 2/EB...

I wonder if it did indeed see a wider release, would it affect the value of the real carts? Likely wishful thinking on my part :o

I'd hope so. I'd buy 100. 1 for me, and 99 to throw at Fils-Aime's head for taking so long to pull the finger out.

Seen a complete in box one on ebay.com today, with the strategy guide for a BIN price of $650/$700...ouch! :o

Ouchies. I've seen it go for more, but that seems the painful average. Some jambay on Racketboy made out with a CIB copy for $215 just a couple of days ago. Which is about as far as you can stretch the definition of a bargain, funny enough.

Your man's ad you posted stuck 'rare' on top. Earthbound ain't rare. It's anti-rare. It was overproduced and it undersold, which is why it was considered a flop. Keep in mind, it sold 140,000 copies at retail in the US. Beyond the bizarre and expensive ad-campaign that Nintendo ran, can you imagine how many shipped copies didn't sell for Earthbound to be considered a disappointment? I know it ain't helping that a lot of people own about 5-to-10 copies, but there are still loads out there. It's just got a dedicated, but unfortunately exploitable fanbase.

Because they somehow haven't been mentioned yet, Super Mario Bros 3 (some people rank it above World, I'd go with just below it) and Zelda: Majora's Mask

Is that available on the VC?
A truly epic game that I'd love to play again (curse you n64 controller turning to dust).

Play it now, time has not been kind and now that I'm a bit more mature it was never funny to begin with.

While classic, sadly it didn't age well.

Goes for silly money these days, so it helped pay for a large chunk of my WiiU. ;)

Sums it up alright. You know a game isn't rare when you check ebay and there's always a glut of 10-20 copies at once.

It's just become hyper inflated. :(

Worth keeping in mind that due to the stupidly overpriced figure it's going for lately, apparently it's turning into a game that's up there on the bootlegger's list.

Have read of people thinking they have a legit copy, only to open it up and see a tsop adapter.

Given how easy it is to do it, I'd be very wary about buying a real EB cart now. Pics of the pcb would be a must

Mother 2/Earthbound is actually popping up on the NTSC-J VC on March 20th. Itoi teased that it's the first of many things to come, and tweeted the following the US-based Starmen.net.
All you people who play MOTHER, thank you. I really appreciate it. People of Starmen.Net too… thank you very much. I hear all sorts of enjoyable rumors). SENTIMENTAL

Granted, if you've been a follower/fan of the Mother series for longer than 20 minutes, you'll have scoped how accustomed one must get to disappointment.

I do hope Enternow's theory/wish of the digital release driving down the cost of physical proves true. The only proper example I can think of is Marvel vs Capcom 2 on the PS2, which had its 'new' price slashed considerably upon its digital re-release.

Now thats just teasing from Itoi! I'd say the Starmen forums are alive with talk over this are they?

They never seem to stop from what I've seen, this announcement must've battered their servers.
