Would anyone be able to give me a rough price for replacement bushes (only one side failed, but probably best to get the two sides done)

Don't think it's a job I could tackle myself, as I'd imagine heating, hammering and pulling would be involved??

    Any advice welcome.

    Thanks.

    I'd get both sides done.
Might need a press to do the job.
    Not familiar with golfs.
Is the bushe on an arm that u can remove yourself and take it to someone?

I'm not sure, a bit lost really!!

"Axle and wishbone bushes - worn" is what it says on the report.

    Cheers.

    About €250.

Had a quote of €180 which I has happy with, now turns out the mechanic is going on holidays and won't be back in time for my re-test!

I priced the bushes at €8.20 each + VAT from GSF (needs 4 I believe)
Anyone guess how many hours labour involved for an indy mechanic to remove the old ones and fit the new?

    Thanks.

Anybody done these bushings before? They're ****ed on my mk3, was half thinking of diying but from looking at the diy guides they seem to be an absolute nightmare

€180 was a great price for the job if it included good quality parts.

The rear axle bushes are far more expensive than €8.20 each. The bushes you priced from GSF must be the rear bush in the front wishbone. The rear beam bushes are about €35 each from VW and there is one in each side. GSF sell a cheap version but don't waste your time with them as they don't last. Lemforder make the OE bushes so if you can find a supplier for them you will save a few quid off the VW price, but don't fit any other brand of parts, we have tried them all and none of them last.

To replace both rear beam bushes you are looking at about 3 hours labour for someone who is familiar with them. Far more than that for a first timer or DIY job. Also a special tool is needed to fit the new bush.

So the price of €250 I posted above consists of:

    Bushes €35 x 2 = €70
Brake fluid for bleeding brake system approx €5
3 hours labour at an average rate of €50 per hour = €150

    That comes to €225, add 13.5% VAT = €255

I wouldn't recommend DIY-ing it to be honest. It is not a nice job.

It seems high alright doesn't it?

You would be amazed at how little of it is left over after all the overheads are paid though ;)

I get get lemforder bushes from mister-auto for €35 for the pair. They aren't a little cheap no?

If you can get them for that price then go for it. You won't find them locally that cheap anyway.

    Lemforder is a good brand.

The Mk3 Estate is a different beast and requires 4 bushings/hub carriers (2 per side) Different setup altogether to the hatchback version and the MK4.

€8.20 each plus VAT is correct (times 4) plus new bolts and nuts.

Apologies, I didn't realise they were different. Sounds like the old B3 Passat setup.

Away with ye and your apologies :p

    car-bock.de yiz little pixies!

    http://www.car-bock.de/Repair-kit-rear-axle-suspension-bushing-VW-Golf-3-Variant-Estate-1994-99

€40 all in with delivery, including new bolts and nuts (could just imagine the mechanic telling me that he had to cut the old bolts out!!!)

Had them in about 4-5 days, mechanic fitted them on Thursday (€140 labour) and the car just passed the NCT today.

    Happy bunny :D

    Thanks all ;)
