    First holiday away with our 1 year old...

    Think we have narrowed it down to either majorca or algarve, hoping to get some recommendations for either location, ideally would like:

    * short transfer time from airport
    * close to the beach
    * doesnt need to be too lively for obvious reasons :) but would like to be close enough to good restaurants etc

    any suggestions greatly appreciated

    oh yeah hoping to head away in May

    thanks

    you really can't go wrong with albufeira. transfers from faro are 30 minutes. i use yellowfish transfers. return transfer is 60euros.

    we've been going there every year since my son was 1...he'll be 7 this year. we used to go may, just as the season was starting...nice atmosphere and fab restaurants

    i've a wee place there, so if you have any questions at all, ask away and i'll try help you :)

    cala dor in majorca is supposed to be nice too

    ah your welcome
    i'm not sure if you would be interested in hotel/self catering...
    the 3 big hotels are the pariso, brisa sol and vila gale. the vila gale would be the best in my opinion. dom capito is next to vila gale and it's one of our favourite restaurants, there are loads of nice restaurants in the old town square and in the side streets off the square, you are spoilt for choice really.

    Watch out for the flight times. This is what swayed us in the decision over the same two destinations as you have highlighted. Majorca flight times was much more child friendly.

    Thanks for all the info...i think we would prefer to go self catering as we would like to have the freedom to make up some of the little ones food, so if you could recommend any that would be great...

    cheers

    i'll send you a pm of our own apartment at Solario de Sao Jose, we're on trip advisor so you can have a little read of the reviews to see if that would suit you...
