Cycling (and singing) in the rain

I tried to go for a cycle this morning, but was quickly blown back indoors by the driving wind and rain. I don't want the weather dictating my spin days as much as they did last year, so I'm going to invest in some appropriate gear, I just don't know what to get. Assuming I have nothing, I think I need the following:

    Waterproof jacket
    Water and wind-resistant gloves
    Wool socks
    Wicking baselayer (top)
    Overshoes

I want to be comfortable in wind and rain, no matter the temperature. I think I have everything covered except perhaps the legs. I wear bib tights usually, unless it's really cold, I'm guessing I have no need for leg warmers or something underneath the tights?

I'm looking for advice from the non fair weather cyclists out there who are comfortable, dry and non-sweaty on their spins, no matter what the Irish summer throws at them.

I've never managed to stay dry, but comparatively warm is achievable with the gear you mention. I also throw a hat onto the list for under your helmet, and waterproof rather than wool socks. I forget to put on my sealskinz socks yesterday and regretted it with numb feet on the slog home. You need breathable waterproofs, and for many days the gilet works better than the jacket.

    :pac:

Was out this morning in all my best rain gear and still was soaked thru. No escaping it really.

I commented on the effectiveness, or not, of some of my kit in cold *and* wet weather here, if that's of any use.
