Banker of the Festival

Well what is your banker for the week? Personally I just can't see Simonsig getting beat so I'll gladly take some of the 4/6 available. It's essentially a two horse race and I think he'll have too much for Overturn. Also had a strong word for Super Duty in the Kim Muir at 11/2.

Same as the last 3 years, Quevega. Until she actually throws it in one day, you can't go against her. Especially at the ridiculous price of 8/13 or 4/6 you're bound to see at some stage on Tuesday. She's a 1/3 shot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭Moon Dice

Pont Alexandre in the Neptune. Price is a bit short now but looks a beast. An awful lot of the preview nights are tipping it as their banker too

Yeah after listening to a good few preview nights the only concern really seems to be that she is a mare and they can just decide to "switch off" as they get older. She is a fantastic horse though and its just a pity we won't get to see her in the World Hurdle. Only way she races in that is if she refuses to race or gets brought down early in the mares.

The thing I hate about bets like this is that every Tom, Dick and Harry will be doing it.

'Oh 2 short price favs lets double them up. '

Sprinter Sacre! Backed him at Evens in a double with Sir Des Champs... I'm confident about the first half of that bet...

I've fully convinced myself that if First Lieutenant runs in the Ryanair it will win.

Oh i understand what you mean but i just think overturn will set the race up perfectly for Simonsig to breeze past him and if Quevega turns up with 4 legs intact she should win. Obviously i could be wrong but sure its all about opinions

Banker of bankers is Salsify. His run at Leopardstown was breath taking and his time on the day taken against Sir Des Champs over same distance was only 5 seconds slower. As SDS is second fav for the Gold Cup then Salsify would be in the top six in the betting. He runs in the Foxhunter which is around 8 levels below GC standard.I have taken 11/4 for my biggest bet of the year.

That wasn't a slight on you, sorry.

I just meant that you'll get lads that haven't a clue about horses doubling them up. Purely because they're odds on shots.

    Agree with this.
I'm hoping for bigger on the day, that's the only reason I haven't touched him yet. Had him last year too. And it's a worse race this year.

    +1

FL in the Ryanair for me too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Just had my largest bet in a while on FL in the Ryanair. At 7/2
    So he's my banker.

I can see him going off a lot shorter.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Not really mad on any if the shorties, but respect has to be given to MTOY who's miles clear of the rest in the opener

As a result my "banker" would have to be something priced a bit bigger. I was all over Attaglance in the last if Tuesday but with the forecast soft going he looks a doubtful runner

If absent and If First Lieutenant goes in the Ryanair & Sizing Europe doesn't FL gets another vote from me

I'm intrigued to know why people are now so confident of First Lieutenant.

Nobody mentioned him as a Ryanair candidate after the Lexus, the horse wasn't even mentioned in the initial thread. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056869579

I count 5 people nominating him now of which only one posted in that thread you linked

In any case in sure some people's opinions have changed (or only been formed) with regards certain horses as a bet in the last few weeks, or even days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,814 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

I'm actually surprised FL has been picked by 5/6 people in so few posts as well.

If anything, I've decided you're all prophetic, and that he's definitely good enough to win!!!

The only mention of the horse in this thread is in relation to the Gold Cup. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056839047&page=4 Not one mention of the Ryanair.

The fact is it didn't even cross the majority of your minds that First Lieutenant could be a Ryanair horse after the Lexus, or even before it. Went to a couple of preview meetings or heard others mention it and it is now the banker of the festival.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

The way the race is cutting up its falling into FL's lap.

SE won't run. There's a chance Cue Card could go CC as the ground has gone soft.
Can't have Riverside Theatre or Menorah. Champion Court doesn't look good enough.

The confidence of Russell too says it all.

Or did you want us all to say that we're only backing FL because you suggested it?

In your opinion (which is incorrect in my case anyhow). Not everyone decides in December the bets they'll place in March

I've stated here a huge number of times there's no form line that could make him believe he'll finish ahead of Bobs Worth. To my eye he can't win a gold cup and I've been of that opinion since he was outstayed in the RSA (and Bobs Worth repeated the dose in the Hennessy)

Yes I did, the narcissist that I am.

No mention of the horse whatsoever for the Ryanair, yet despite the very same form to work off he becomes the bet of the festival a few previews later. That is intriguing to me, if a little comical aswell.

They must not preach foresight in those racing catalogues.

Hopefully the bookies will have a small liability on Quevega due to her being quite short at the moment. Hopefully they'll take her on as it gets closer to the race.

I'm with you as I posted earlier, with the ground the way it is I think he long odds on not to run however. Pink side blank on Betfair

Rock On Ruby to place. Beat this lot last year and is in his prime whereas HF and Binocular are 9 years old and slightly past their best. He maps well in the run too . I have never rated Grandouet as a CH winner which leaves me with Zarkandar to beat......So ROR to place would be my banker of the festival at around evens.

    Not really. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=83190545

What value does this post add anyway. why even bother. Actually I don't care.
Our little minds aren't clever enough to think he could be a Ryanair horse :roll eyes:

Sprinter Sacre - Simonsig - Quvega

Just don't see any of these losing barring an accident.

3 weeks ago when he was circa 5/1. Great stuff.

This is the reason why I am tempted to wear ear plugs in work, in the bookies & anywhere else I'm going to bump in to Tom, Dick & Harry this week. People who know sweet F.A but for this week, they think they're Tom Segal. Only fools get sucked in to the odds on shots at the festival. In my opinion there's little or no fun in getting stuck in to 4/6 shots. For me, making a few quid isn't what this week is all about. I think backing a 20/1 shot that finishes second or third is much more enjoyable than throwing hundreds on short priced horses.

My banker for the week is Jezki. I think Midnight Chase could run in to a place in the JLT on Tuesday also.

The local bookie did a 1 day special offering 3/1 on Salsify a few days ago. My only worry is the ground, we all know Salsify loves it to be good.

Attaglance doesn't run which is no surprise given the ground. Money back and wait for another day, wonder would they bring him to Punchestown for a novices handicap chase?

Can't believe I got the majority of my money on at Evens and 5/6. She truly is banker material in every sense of the word. People will say she's losing it, but without the mishap at the top of the hill she probably would've won by a similar distance as last year. I wouldn't rule out her coming back again

I'll be backing her next year if she shows up,load this years winning on her in punchestown aswell for more free money,a great mare in every sense and I'd doubt she owes anybody a penny with all her winning a real punters pal.
