Polo, micra, yaris etc. 1.3 or less for insurance. Keep it small and slow for insurance.

puntos wouldnt be known for reliability but on the used car market they are cheaper than say a yaris which would be more reliable.

    What about insurance and tax?

I bought my first car a few months back (although I'm 21) for €200 and it's a great car. It's also so cheap that I don't have to worry too much if I end up putting it in a ditch.
€2000 is a lot to drop on your first car at 17.

    Buy a Fiesta 1.25, Yaris 1.0, etc.
€500-€1000 is all you need to spend, I just got a good deal on mine. ;)

I know but I don't want something that's not worth much and old I'm looking really at anything 1.0-1.2 cheap to run 04-06

So far at cars I've looked at the cheapest for insurance was a 04 punto 1.2 16v active sound

Just because something's cheap doesn't mean it's going to look old or not worth it.
Sure it's your money but I'd hate to see you sink that much money into something a d then take a lump of paint off the side of it.

i dont think the punto is half as bad a car as people say. they might be a bit italian but really they are a reasonably reiable car. usually have a decent spread of kit in the later models too.

id much rather one than a polo, ibiza style yoke. only car id favour over it in that catergory is probably a fiesta. maybe a yaris :P

Well from what I've looked at most cheap weren't something I'd buy. I'm not going to be careless and tear the side of a car!!

I want something like that's sporty nice looking I intend to keep the car for at least 2-4 yrs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭Dean12319

No offence but I don't want to be driving around in something like a yaris

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,724 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Meh, I've offered my advice, blow your money if you want to.
I could think of better ways to spend a grand at 17 though.

Oh, and a 17 saying they're going to drive sensibly and then saying they want something sporty?
    Yep.

Thanks nice few there!! I think ill prob end up getting a punto economically they suit me!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

dont limit yourself to the puntos criteria for the sake of costs.

the tax is very little extra for a 1.3 car, the likes of a corolla would be a much nicer car imo, a bit of a step up. similarly a 1.3 colt wouldn't cost you much if anything extra to run and they look pretty nice too.

Tried quote for few 1.3 was outrageous it seems 1.2 as high as I can go thanks anyway!!

    Please what?

I don't know why it was to be an 04 Punto, you could get one cheaper and just as good for less money.
That model ran from 1999 so don't kid yourself by saying it'll look old.

I prefer the facelift models and I want something that when it comes to selling I get at least some money back to buy another

Well fair enough if you prefer the looks but in 3 or 4 years time you'll lose less money on a cheaper car.

And I wasn't having a pop at you personally about scraping it, that's just part of learning.
You should see the state of my alloys from curbing. :(
But they were cheap so **** it. :)
